Well, you heard it directly from Radical! The programmers have
completed the patch and it'll be out VERY soon! Radical will put the patch up on their home page for us to download.
Here's the current draft of the patch readme file...
NHL Powerplay 98 - v1.1
This patch is a upgrade to fix a few bugs and also incorporates some
performance tweaks. It does not add any new functionality or features. The tuning changes were made based on the comments made by people in the usenet news groups and in the many email messages we have received. Thanks for the interest and suggestions. They have helped us put together a more balanced product. (See, they listen! -jp)
NHL Powerplay 98 version 1.1 changes:
- Fixes a bug in the instant replay interface. Two button controllers now work properly. The length of the buffer
has been increased.
- On Voodoo video cards the front end screen swipes have been removed because they were taking too long.
- The frequency of injuries and penalties has been reduced.
- The deadspot for joystick input has been widened. Some devices were giving very noisy reads. If you are still having problems with joystick input, you should check to see if the manufacturer of that input device has an updated driver available.
- The computer players have been made a bit more aggressive about attempting passes and shots rather than dumping the puck to the corners. The computer now takes more shots and passes a bit more often.
NHL Powerplay 98 changes that just sort of happened:
- Cards based on the Voodoo Graphics chip can be made to stop stuttering when playing at 800x600. Contact your card manufacturer for updated drivers.
- Cards based on the Voodoo Graphics chip can cause hyphens to appear on the ice surface when used in a Pentium II. Pressing M to toggle ice surface texture a couple of times usually corrects this rendering artifact.
- NHL Powerplay 98 works with the S3 Virge/GX2 chipset.
We do not recommend that hardware rendering be used in conjunction with
cards based on the ATI Rage II/II+ chipsets. Because of the nature those chips, software rendering of 3D NHL Powerplay 98 will be faster and less problematic. ATI Rage Pro owners should use hardware rendering.
- Cards based on the RIVA128 can hang when loading the game. The solution is to turn off automipmapping. Contact your board manufacturer for more details.
