Streak

Philosophy

This is our best play to beat the FS in cover 3. We feel we can put a great Horizontal Stretch on the FS so any choice he makes is a wrong choice. We also add Out routes to the Outside WR's to stretch the CB's also so they cannot effectively rob the Double Streak.

Formation

We prefer this play out of any 2x2 formation but run it out of trips when were on the Hash marks. When you use Trips in the middle of the field you loose a lot of the Horizontal Stretch and allow the CB's to rob the streaks.

Alignment

Outside WR's are to line up any where they choose as long as they get a good release off the line. It is vital they are not pushed inside to the Slots route. Slots are to align 2 yards inside the Hash marks. They are to adjust their alignment in bump coverage so they can effectively get to the Hash marks during their routes. If WR's are being re-route during bump coverage align so the bump pushes you to your route.

Pre-Snap Read

QB walks to the Ball and looks for potential 7 man Blitz. QB has no true Hot read so he has to decide to change the play to Z pop or align in shot gun. Once QB has determined

There is no threat of 7 man blitz he looks to see what Combination he will be working. If defense is aligned in a three deep zone QB will decide to work the double inside Streak to Y and H. If he sees two deep safety or bump he can either stay with the double streak or change the play to four verticals. His last choice is to work the Streak/Out combo.

Post-Snap Read

After QB has made his decision he snaps the ball and proceeds on his five big steps and hitch drop. His first read is to see if Z will be open as he clears underneath coverage at about 7 yards. If this is the case QB will pull up at three steps and fire a bullet, chest high into the seam area, up the hash marks, behind underneath coverage and in front of the Secondary coverage. QB needs to make this throw every time he feels he can deal the ball effectively. Any doubt to making this throw or if he sees any defender in his path, QB should proceed with his five step drop. As QB finishes his drop he should find the FS and look him off to Z's streak. If FS does anything but run to cover H, QB will plant, turn and throw a inside over the shoulder ball to H streaking down left hash. This throw should be there if QB has effectively looked FS off to Z's Streak. If for some reason CB has come into the picture to rob H's streak, gather your feet step and throw the Out route to X at 14 yards.

Two deep or Dime Coverage

If QB sees two deep safeties he will look to Z and go through his normal progression. After QB looks off SS to Y's streak he comes backside to H's dudley route. If H has beaten FS inside QB will deliver a over the shoulder ball to H. If FS has come underneath H's dudley, QB will throw an Over the Top throw to H.

Streak Out Combination

QB can use this combination if he sees bump coverage or feels the match up is better then the Streak stretch. This comb is also our Out play and he can run it without having to change the play. QB looks CB off deep on Streak and throws a shoulder high throw outside the WR. This throw is our only timing pattern and QB throws as the WR makes his Post move.

Pattern Adjustments

X Out route

Zone or Man coverage X will Post at 12 Yards for two to three steps and comeback on a 14 yards Out route. X will look CB deep as if he was running a deep Post. When CB turns his hips inside X will plant and comeback down hill looking for the ball as he turns.

If QB has not thrown ball and gives you a pump fake turn up sideline. If QB gives you no Pump fake stay at home and wait for ball.

H Dudley Route

Zone or Man as you release read MOF and determine if you are Streaking or Posting. If MOF is closed stay on Streak keep proper Horizontal stretch on FS. Idle down and don’t out run the QB's arm when you have open field in front of you. If MOF is open Post across middle. No FS you have lots of room to work MOF. 2 FS's work off your FS a Y will influence the other. Bump coverage push up field lean into your man, as if your breaking on a Out, and slide by him on a Post at about 8 - 10 yards well in front of the FS.

Split the FS's but don’t run yourself into the other FS.

Z Streak Route

Zone or Man push up field on a Streak route. As you clear underneath coverage idle down and look for ball quick if QB has not thrown ball by 10 yards get up field and draw FS to you with eye contact. Keep Streak route on Hash mark to keep Horizontal stretch on FS.

Y Out route

Zone or Man coverage Y will Post at 12 Yards for two to three steps and comeback on a 14 yards Out route. Y will look CB deep as if he was running a deep Post. When CB turns his hips inside Y will plant and comeback down hill looking for the ball as he turns.

If QB has not thrown ball and gives you a pump fake turn up sideline. If QB gives you no Pump fake stay at home and wait for ball.

Defensive Problems

  1. In Cover 3 the backside CB is robbing the Streak. Our plan for that defensive problem is to run 63 Out to his side. The QB will quickly scan the Streak as he always does but when he comes to the backside throw he will look CB on to the Dudley and throw the Out route behind CB. We also can call 99 or All Streak to keep the CB occupied with X.
  2. In Dime the FS is jumping the Dudley route. Our plan for that defensive problem is to tag the Corner route to H. H then fakes Post and breaks to Corner. We also have X Middle where H runs the Corner quick taking FS with him and X coming underneath and running a middle route.

Conclusion

Streak is a great deep play against all coverage's but best against Cover 3. The FS cannot effectively cover both Streak routes. The ability to hit Z quick at 8-10 yards or hitting H deep on the hash or Post gives us a nice 2 level pass play. This play can become your best home run threat while being conservative.
