At age twenty-four, Dwayne now performs his work over seventy times annually, and his seemingly underground popularity has lead to mainstream recognition in Mic Check Magazine, Now Magazine, and the Toronto Star.
With the assistance of Tropicana Community Services Organization, Dwayne was able to publish his first book of poetry, Straight From The Roots, in December of 1995. This book has recently sold its 1000th copy and is now out of print.
With the overwhelming success of his first book, Dwayne self published his second book, The Revolution Starts Within, in 1996. This book recently sold 650 copies and has also gone out of print.
With the urge to make more of his work available to the public, Dwayne searched for a new avenue to express his views. Produced somewhat as an experiment, Dwayne released an audiocassette of his work (Another Level) in 1997.
Dwayne is currently viewed as one of the most exciting, intriguing, and entertaining poets on the Toronto scene today. His style is unique and emulates many of the musical styles that influence his work. With fresh ideas, and a delivery full of passion and emotion, Dwayne has the uncanny ability to leave audiences hanging off of his every word.
Dwayne�s hard work and persistence were rewarded in 1998 when he received the African Canadian Achievement Award as well as the prestigious Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in the Arts.
Dwayne has spent the past five years laying the groundwork for a bright and prosperous future. His eyes are firmly set on increasing his national and international profile, and he is definitely a name to watch in the new millennium.
