Kevin Ormsby one of two dancers with Up From The Roots Entertainment and has been an active member in the performances of Up Form The Roots since he joined the group in 1998. He started dancing at the age of eleven and came into the world of dance by suprise. He was discovered after doing a musical routine while with the Kidstuff Young Peoples Theatre. The routine was ironically entitled "A New World for me". He was given a scholarship to The Jamaica School Of Dance and, from this point, dance became a new world for Kevin. Kevin Ormsby is what we call in the performing arts a 'triple threat'. He possesses experience and excels in drama, music and dance. He has been acting since he was three and studied dance at the Jamaica School of Dance and Theatre at Jamaica School of Drama. He currently dances with Caribbean Folk Performers where he utilizes his expertise as an Associate Artistic Director. Kevin has also performed with Caribbean Dance Theatre, Ballet Creole and the Dance Caribe Performing Company. His other interests include journalism and track and field where he functions as the York University Sports Council's, Director of Publicity and is an Ontario Athletic All Star. Kevin has received numerous performing arts awards in Jamaica and Toronto. Some of his most prestigious awards include Best Supporting Actor and Best Dub Poet Class 16D in1992 of The Jamaica National Festival of the Arts. In Toronto, his most recent awards includes the Scarborough Board of Education "Excellence In Education" Award for Performing Arts at his former high school, Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute and the Metropolitan Toronto Caravan Best Script Award. He is an Ontario Scholar and is pursuing his studies in Mass Communications and Political Science at York University. He is also the co-founder of the Lester B. Pearson Dance Troupe, and teaches dance at The Scarborough Caribbean Youth Dance Ensemble. 1
