GAME 3:

#1 DALLAS STARS vs #2 COLORADO AVALANCHE

Series tied 1-1
Game time: Wednesday May 26th, 1999 7:30pm at Colorado

Coming off their first road playoff loss, the Colorado Avalanche hope to take advantage of their home-ice advantage in Game Three of the Western Conference finals with the Dallas Stars. The Avalanche tied the 1980 and 1982 New York Islanders and the 1995 New Jersey Devils as the only teams to win seven straight road playoff games. But Joe Nieuwendyk's fourth game-winning goal of the postseason, with 8:08 remaining, snapped a tie and Mike Modano added an insurance tally as the Stars defeated the Avalanche, 4-2, in Dallas on Monday to even the best-of-seven series at one game apiece. Peter Forsberg picked up one assist in the setback, giving him points in 13 of 14 playoff games. He leads all playoff scorers with 20 points. Avalanche goaltender and three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Roy made 41 saves in the loss, dropping him to 10-2 lifetime when facing 40 or more shots in the playoffs. Nieuwendyk, who has two overtime goals in the playoffs, has 10 points in his last 10 games for the Stars. Mike Modano has three goals and five assists during a five-game points streak and leads the Stars with 14 points in the postseason. Ed Belfour stopped 17 shots in Game Two, improving to 9-3 in these playoffs. Game Four will be here on Friday.
