After losing the series opener on home ice, the Dallas Stars need a win tonight when they face the Detroit Red Wings in Game Two of the Western Conference finals.
Chris Osgood was hardly tested in recording his fourth career playoff shutout as the Wings blanked the Stars, 2-0, in Sunday's series opener.
Vyacheslav Kozlov and red-hot Martin Lapointe scored in the second period for the Red Wings, who are 6-1 on the road in the playoffs, outscoring opponents away from Detroit, 27-12.
Although Osgood was good when he had to be, Dallas needs to put forth a much better effort tonight. The Stars failed to muster a shot during a two-man advantage midway through the first period and were limited to 14 shots for the third time in the postseason. The defending Stanley Cup champions outshot Dallas in each period and had a 23-14 advantage for the game.
The Stars are 1-9 in playoff series when losing Game One, with the only win coming in their first-ever playoff appearance in 1968 against Los Angeles.
Lapointe has four goals during a three-game scoring streak and has eight points in his last seven contests. Captain Steve Yzerman leads Detroit with 16 postseason points, while Sergei Fedorov is second with 15, including a team-leading eight goals.
Mike Modano leads Dallas with just 10 points and Benoit Hogue is the leading goal-scorer with four.
The Wings are 14-for-88 (15.9 percent) on the power play through 13 playoff games, while the Stars are just 2-for-39 in their last seven and 9-for-75 (12 percent) overall in the playoffs.
The series shifts to Detroit for Game Three on Friday.
