The Power Of Tae Kwon Do!
Types of Footwork

1) Forward Footwork
There are 2 types of forward footwork: forward step, in which the rear foot steps forward and the front foot axts as pivot and forward slide, in which both feet slide forward maintaining the same stance. The function of forward footwork is to shorten the distance to the opponent and secure the position that is best for attacking. Forward footwork is best followed by roundhouse kick or back kick.

2)Backward Footwork
There are 2 types of backward footwork: backward step, in which the front foot steps back and the rear foot acts as pivot and backward slide, in which both feet slide backward maintaining the same stance. Backward footwork is best followed by roundhouse kick, back kick, and spin hook kick.

3)Lateral Footwork
There are 2type of lateral footwork: lateral pivot, in which the rear foot moves at a 45 degree angle to the right or left while the front foot acts as pivot and lateral slide, om which both feet simultaneously slide to the right or left maintaining the same stance. Lateral footwork is best followed by an immediate counterattack, such as a roundhouse kick, axe kick or turn kick.

4) Turning Footwork
Turning footwork indicates turning the body 180 degrees forward to the posterior side by moving the rear foot and using the front foot as a pivot. The best techniques for turning are roundhouse, axe kick and hook kick.

5) Drawing Footwork
The are 2 types of drawing footwork: the front foot draw in which the front foot is drawn along the ground toward the rear foot and rear draw in which the rear foot is drawn along the ground toward the front foot. Front drawing is especially effective when combined with a simultaneous rear leg roundhouse kick. Other kicks combined with drawing footwork are roundhouse kick, axe kick, and hook kick.
