The Power Of Tae Kwon Do!
Defense Techniques
Direct Defense means blocking a kick to the head or body by covering potential targets with the arm. An effective block prevents the opponent from scoring a point. There are two basic types of blocks: single block in which the forearm is used to cover the trunk or head area and double block in which one arm comes up to cover the head and the other drops to cover the trunk.
Indirect Defense means avoiding an attack by moving out of its path using footwork or a change of stance. Indirect defense skills are usually followed by a counterattack. Counterattacking right after avoiding an attack is one of the most effective means of scoring in taekwondo competition.
