Bio

Vincent Lamar Carter was born on January 26th 1977 in Daytona Beach Florida. Vince is like the master of Jams. he can FLY I swear! So whats his vertacle? "I have no idea," he said. "I think the last time it was 39 [inches], and I was coming off a knee injury. It's probably higher than that now. I hope." Well no question it's gotta be higher just look at this picture!

Says teammate Antawn Jamison, "He's probably the toughest person I go against. He's one of those guys with great upper-body strength. And he's one of those guys who can really jump. You can't just lay it up there and expect it to go in."

Lots of people have heard rummers about Vince transfering because of lower playing time in the past. But it's SO not true. "Yeah," Carter said, "I heard I was going to Kentucky, Villanova, Florida, Florida State. My roommate would come down the hall and tell me where he heard I was transferring. I don't know who started that. My mother even called and asked me about it. But I'm not going anywhere. I like it here. I'm a Tar Heel. I love Tar Heel blue."

Vince Plays saxophone, drums and trumpet, among other noise-making devices. His dad, Harry, is the band director at Mainland High, and Vince played in the school jazz band. Vince Carter and Cori Brown, a UNC team manager and one of the marching band members at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Fla. (And a freind of Vince's since childhood) used to trade flashy, creative bursts when the ensemble played live. "He was really, really nice as a soloist," said Brown, who played trumpet. "Especially on the ad-lib solos. Sometimes, he'd do one, I'd do one, back and forth. It was great stuff." "Fans always waited until the third quarter to go get popcorn," said Cori "We were really, really good."

The Three Musketeers Vince Antawn and Ademola are often known as the Three Muskateers. "They are always together," said Cori Brown. Corny as it sounds, Okulaja refers to the group as the Three Musketeers. The fiercely loyal guys with the swords and rapier wit. "I guess we have almost the same personality," Carter said. "We're all easy to get along with. We hit it off from there. We were all together, from day one."

"Sometimes, we're on the floor and we just wink at each other," Okulaja said.

Says Virginia senior Jamal Robinson about Trash Talking.. "Some are better at it than others. You know, like Vince Carter." Ah, yes, North Carolina's Vince Carter. Seems the sophomore guard has gotten something of a reputation around the league for his, uh, showmanship. "I kind of enjoy it, really, to tell the truth," Carter said with a sly smile. "I like for guys to give me their best and I try to take what they can give."

"When we played at Virginia, they must have hit 13 three-pointers on us," Wake guard Jerry Braswell said. "And after each one He'd make a little bomb sound, then go 'BOOM!,'" Braswell said.

The next MJ? "It's an honor just to be considered the next Jerry Stackhouse or the next Michael Jordan," Carter said, "but I'm just trying to be Vince Carter and help this team."

Fun Facts

"He was expected to do what he'd done in high school," Cori Brown said. "At times, he went into his room by himself and just played video games, shutting everybody out. He gets real quiet at times like that. That's the way he is."

"I've been in the weight room. I've gained five to 10 pounds. I'm faster and stronger and I'm playing more in the post. I love it."
