Docklands.... it's just my opinion

Docklands

Despite apparent overwhelming member rejection the board of St Kilda Football Club have resolved to move to the new Docklands from season 2000.  The nomads of the competition, St Kilda have been searching for a long term home for some time, with members assured that Waverley Park was the final long term home.  St Kilda has built strong member base in the south and south east suburbs of Melbourne, yet this is seemingly not important to the club.
President Plympton, in assuring members and supporters, claims that 12,000 members seats will be guaranteed for each of 9 scheduled home games at Docklands.  Yet St Kilda had 24,000 members last season and currently has a target for 30,000 for this coming season.   So... this is the way it works.... members get to place one bum cheek on each seat, so members can all benefit from the "State of the Art" facilities.   What a half arsed idea!!!
And Pres. Plympton says, the maximum number of members that attended Waverley last season was 9,000.  This is adult members - fool!  Most would also bring at least one child, who unless they are members cannot sit in the reserved member area.  Pres goes on to say that supporters in Adelaide and Perth have had to pre buy their tickets for some time - so we need to get used to it.  Double fool!  Why should supporters get used to it when there's a perfectly good stadium in the heart of supporter country that allows me, and my family (and thousands of others too) to enjoy the game in comfort.
Yes I know the AFL have said "there will be no games at Waverley after season 99, but a strong response from St Kilda and Hawthorn - and their members and supporters would have seen people power reign.
The following paragraph was placed on this web site in November 1998, following a poll which asked the simple question " which ground would you prefer to see St Kilda play its home games"

Regular visitors would be aware that we have been conducting a home ground poll over the past few months.  Well the die is cast and the results are in.  68% of voters want the Saints to stay at Waverley, with the MCG coming in second at 13%.   Moorabbin polled a close third at 12% with only 7% choosing the Docklands.  A total of 311 people voted, which, while not huge is probably a statistically valid and random sample of Internet surfing Sainters.  So according to the majority - it's got to be Waverley.  Lets' hope the board are listening.

Well clearly they weren't, and it will be interesting to see how member and supporter numbers stack up over the coming year.
A number of No Docklands members nominated for the recent Board elections and following meetings with Pres. Plympton they withdrew their nominations.  Can one assume from this that the arguments were so convincing that they too have changed their minds about Docklands?  No public comment has been made that I know of.
