Chelsea have been chasing a striker all summer to bolster the front line for the new season and Sutton is the chosen man.
He smashes the Blues transfer record by signing for �10 Million in a 6 year deal and makes Chelsea the third biggest spenders on one player in the UK , who would of thought it a few years ago.
The previous record was held last summer by tragically injured Pierluigi Casiraghi at �5.4 million (who is looking for a return around January), but as transfer prices rocket this summer up to around �25 Million for Vieri, even this amount can be seen as a good price.
Sutton was a British record �5 Million pound transfer when he moved from Norwich to Blackburn in 1994 and formed a lethal partnership with Alan Shearer which saw Blackburn win the title.
Since Shearer left he took on the responsibility of the main striker at Blackburn and two seasons ago shared the Golden Boot for top Premiership scorer with Micheal Owen and scored 21 in total that year.
Last season he was plagued by injurys and playing in a poor Blackburn side doomed to relegation so made few appearances but has proved his goal scoring record as a 15-25 goal a season man , something Chelsea have not had since Dixon day's.
His arrival gives Vialli the versatility up front he was looking for with a choice upfront of Zola, Flo, Forssell, and now Sutton .
Colin Hutchinson made it clear last week that he expects more than one transfer to be made before the start of the season so there could be more to come.
Sutton has been capped by England and recieved notoriety when he refused to play for England B squad under Glen Hoddle's management after surprisingly being left out of the full squad.
It gained him a reputation of being stubborn and it may take some Chelsea fans some time to accept him , but if Mark Hughes can do it, so can anyone .
Once those goals start going in from the Blue shirted Sutton he could quickly become a fans favourite .
