...A day that I thought would never come: The end of the regular season!!
So, I guess now is the time to concentrate on the expansion draft. I can't wait to see what our new team for next year will look like! The only question is, will Mike have anything to do with it? Rumor has it that he is planning to resign as General Manager over the summer, but I don't know whether or not it would be before or after the Draft.
Suppose Mike does quit. THEN WHAT?? Would any other teams hire him? (Haven't heard his name in the rumor mill.) As a coach? (His hard-nosed work ethic could be appreciated elsewhere.) As a GM? (Other teams are probably loathe to trust his dealings at this point.) Will he go back to Boston? (At least he has SOME respect left there!) Will he go back to the ESPN studios? (I'm not so sure anyone would listen to his opinions anymore.) We'll just have to see. It seems as if only people closely associated with the Islanders are the ones who can't stand him. But others unattached to the team probably have little to no opinion, so he may have a shot at some of the options just mentioned. I'd like to see him back at ESPN. A personality like his should not be allowed to waste away in a stuffy GM's office. Unfortunately, I was not following hockey at the time when he last worked for ESPN (it was the shortened season, so I didn't think it was worth my while). The only work of his that I saw from that period was the story he did from Moscow on the Russian players. He's a good voice-over man! There's another option! :-)
Anyways, it's a little too early to make predictions. We'll just wait and see where the ball rolls!
