Just like I predicted, it was only a matter of time before Bill Stewart showed his true colors and everyone was shocked to see that he's not Saint William after all. It started last month when Mike publically gave Stewart his vote of confidence and declared that he would like to see the rookie coach behind the Isles bench again next season. But the dirty, ungrateful Bill responded with a glib, "We'll see what happens." Um, OKAY.
This past week, Golden Boy Bill again ordered some extra soy sauce to go with his foot when he blatantly dissed the Isles management (namely MIKE) by saying that they didn't have the "resources" to aquire any "National Hockey League talent." These comments angered the owners (for a whole two seconds while they were enjoying pina coladas down by the pool) and especially Mike, who took it as a personal attack towards him. Now the hockey world is in a big uproar, saying how Bill has pointed the finger at everyone but himself. Granted, he is being kind of a whiner-boy, but he can't take the blame 100%. The players take most of it, along with the owners (who can occasionally be seen sitting outside the Nassau Colosseum playing their fiddles). I do agree however that a little humility and humbleness on Stewart's part could go a long way. And the fact that he just dismissed Mike's vote of confidence is just plain wrong!
So, does this mean people will start being nice to Mike now? Not necessarily. John Valenti is still being a dickweed, however, Larry Brooks is backing off just a smidge. And this nice guy named Jay Greenberg who writes for The Hockey News called Mike "a bright guy" and concluded that the Potvin/Berard trade may not be such a bad move after all. THANKS JAY! Love ya, man! ;-)
