Roger Twose
Player Profile
Left hand batsman
Right arm medium pace bowler
Wellington
Born: 17th April 1968
Roger Twose was recalled after a year out of the national side, to take the place of the injured Nathan Astle in the India test series this year. He immediately made an impact scoring a very patient 87, to help New Zealand recover from being 2/0 in the first overs of the game.
Englishborn, Twose played county cricket for Warwickshire, until he came to New Zealand.
His debut for New Zealand's national side came against India in 1995/96.
Twose is a very patient batsman, but is very capable of putting the bad ball away, but is always an ideal player to build an innings around.
Suited to the opener's role, he is able to adapt and bat reliably in the middle order.
Last season he decleared himself unavaliable for national selection. But this season he put together many wonderful innings for his province, Wellington, including a one-day century in the Shell-Cup, and also a 99. It was enough for him to get a recall to the Black Caps and he has proven the selectors made the right choice.
He is a very influential player on the field, and that was shown as he took a sensational catch to dismiss South African captain, Hansie Cronje in the 3rd One Day International in front of the Eden Park terraces, and then turned around and motioned for the crowd to stand. Of course they already were.
With a team spirit he brings to the team, and to the crowd, "Twosey" should be a welcome addition to the Black Caps side.
