Craig McMillan
Player Profile
Right hand batsman
Right arm medium pace bowler
Canterbury
Born: 13th September 1976
Craig McMillan is a player of the future and it shows, as he has proven he has the talent to make it to the top at only 21 years of age. He began as a member of the first annual intake of the BIL Cricket Academy, taking brisk steps upwards until he had reached the New Zealand team.
Agressive, McMillan is already in the Top 10 test batsmen in the world on the Wisden rankings - with two test centuries in his short career. His maiden test hundred came at the Basin Reserve - his first test match on home soil - where he scored 139 against Zimbabwe in the 1st test of the series. It was a magnificent innings laced with boundaries and made McMillan the fourth youngest New Zealander to score a ton.
As a part-time bowler, McMillan is not afraid to try something new and is definetly not intimidated by great batsman, shown this season in the test series against India, where McMillan was bold enough to bowl bouncers at Sachin Tendulkar on numerous occasions.
Gifted with an impish grin, McMillan is one of the personalities of the team, and a favourite amongst the youngsters and the crowd, earning himself the nickname "Macca".
Energetic in the field and when he is batting, McMillan is a naturally attacking plater, who is amazing to watch when in full flight, and not often will you see him leave a ball wide of the offstump.
With a long career ahead of him, McMillan has the makings of one of New Zealand's brightest stars.
