Gavin Larsen
Player Profile
Right arm medium pace bowler
Right hand batsman
Wellington
BORN: 27th September 1962
When you hear the name Gavin Larsen, your mind immediately refers to one of New Zealand's most loyal servants of the game.
At 36 years old, he could of retired long ago, yet Larsen is still around, and still haunting the world's best batsman with dot balls and maiden overs.
Yet "The Postman" still delivers. In the 1998/99 season capturing his 100th One Day International wicket. And it was none other than the prize scalpe of Indian's batting genius, "The Little Master", Sachin Tendulkar.
But Larsen was lucky the statistics counted as the game was abandoned due to rain.
Larsen's miserly bowling during the 1992 World Cup, will probably be fondly remembered. With Larsen at one end, and Chris Harris trotting in from the other, the "dibbly, dobblys" as they were called, surely did play a big part in helping New Zealand remaining unbeaten and helped them into the semi-finals.
Though age is now a factor for Larsen, hopefully he will continue to run in, wearing his NZ uniform and bowling those dot balls that he does so well.
