| Matt Horne made his debut for New Zealand in 1996/97 against England. But in his first game for his country, he broke his hand and was put out for the remainder of the series, but returned for the 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka. Very much a "left-elbow" player, Horne is an attacking opening batsman, and very quick between the wickets. His older brother Phil, played briefly for New Zealand in the 1980s, but Matt has had more success in the openers role than his brother. He has already got two test centuries including 157 against Zimbabwe at Eden Park in 1997/98. He is an active infielder, and is equally safe in the outfield. Horne is also a handy gloveman, and that was proven in the 3rd one-day international last year against Zimbabwe when Adam Parore had to leave the field due to injury. Horne also holds the Otago record for the highest first-class score, a double ton, and the previous score he overhauled was his own brother Phils. Though New Zealand has been having troubles finding an opening batsman, it seems Matt Horne is putting his hand up for the permanent position. He has not recorded his one-day hundred, no doubt he will get it soon enough. |
