Gavin Larsen's 2nd page
A Tribute to "The Postman"...
No doubt about it - the New Zealand Cricket team will miss Gavin Larsen. Who else is going to keep running in bowling those dot balls, over after over, game after game, like Larsen so consistantly has?
Now he may not of been a test player, but how could we not recognise his huge contribution in the one-day arena? Larsen has been the New Zealand Cricket team's icon of the nineties.
Now, Larsen may not be a speedster - he doesn't rely on pace or intimidation to capture his wickets. He is a frustrator - with his nagging line and length, he forces batsmen to take risks that they normally wouldn't. And Larsen has done it plenty of times - with his 100 one-day wickets and an economy rate of 3.8, it surely proves he is the best in the world at what he does.
Now, it's time to say goodbye. We all knew the time would come when "The Postman" would leave the arena for the final time. We wished he could of stayed for longer, but we're just glad to have had the chance to see Larsen and the impact that he has had in the Black Caps.
Free and easy in the field, and no shirk with the bat, the Black Caps will sorely miss Larsen. We all will. But now it's time for him to hang up his Black Cap, and let the cricketing public reflect on the brilliant career that he has had. We'll miss you, Gav.
