These are called hardwood hamocks. They are dense tropical jungle like tree islands found throughout all of south Florida. Places like these make fantastic hiding areas for skunkapes.

Here is a perfect example of how mammals in the Everglades have adapted to the wet environment. This habitat would not be a problem for a bigfoot type creature.

The land down under also has it's own bigfoot creature. They call it the Yowie. This night time photo shows a Yowie hiding in the brush (bottom right corner). Note the incredible glowing eyes!
