Happy New Year / New Years Resolution

I don’t know about you all out there, but I am absolutely blown away it’s already the year 2002! I know, I know - I had the whole year to get ready for it, but for some reason it seems different. This is a year, in which the economy is very unstable, unemployment is up, and for the first time in 60 years United States soil was attacked and soiled with it’s citizen’s blood. The subsequent outpouring of support and love from all over the US to New York did something that hasn’t happened in decades – Americans rallied around each other to fight a common enemy and lend a helping hand to those in need.

As the year 2002 starts, it begins with so much determination and hope; it reminds us of the very principles on which this country was built 225 years ago. We take for granted the freedoms we’ve inherited from our ancestors with an almost cavalier attitude. We’re not mindful of the cost paid in human life for the privilege of living in a free society where our vote decides who represents us in our government. Over 200 years ago a badly out manned, out gunned, and out financed army of colonists faced the greatest army in the world – the Redcoats of England. At one time, the United Kingdom was so expansive this saying was popular and accurate, “The sun never sets on the UK.” Which meant because England owned so much land across the world – truly the sun never did set on at least one part of it at any given time.

How could this ragtag group of young, inexperienced soldiers stand up to the Redcoats? The whole world asked the same question. The colonists were so strong in their convictions (think about it – they got on a leaky ship and sailed for days never knowing where, when, or if they would ever reach the “New World”, so they were a different lot to begin) they refused to lose. The Redcoats had a code of war and how it should be fought – line after line of soldiers firing, and then reloading as the enemy did the same – no ducking! The number of casualties were staggering! The colonists changed all this and used the tradition of the Redcoats against them. A smaller force with greater motivation can win a war. These Americans proved it. We will again.

This is a new year, but every day is a gift. Enjoy it, live it. Don’t wait for something to happen to make you see there’s a great life for you to live 6 inches in front of your face. If you can’t ‘feel’ what’s being said here, maybe a New Year’s Resolution would turn the trick…I meant – DO the trick!?!? Sorry. Do the trick

What’s your New Years Resolution? I have mine. Come on, what’s yours?  OK, Here is mine. I’ve learned from my past…my slip ups, so this year  -
