[Pete Being Pete]

AT&T Challenge

Clay. Again. But it was green instead of red, so maybe, thought Pete, he would have a chance to win some matches on clay to get him better prepared for the French Open. The wind and rain that plagued the tournament helped make the green surface as slow as any of the courts at Roland Garros.

Opponents:
  • 1st round: Alex O'Brien, def. 6-2 7-6
  • 2nd round: Davide Sanguinetti, def. 6-3 5-7 7-5
  • QF: Ramon Delgado, def. 7-6 7-6
  • SF: Alex Calatrava, def. 7-6 6-3

Sweet Victory: Defeated a very determined Jason Stolentenberg 6-7 6-3 7-6. After three months, Pete finally notched his second tour victory, bringing his finals record to 2-1 for 1998.
    Record to date: 21-5
