CA Tennis Trophy

After a bad week in Basil, Pete was desperate. He knew he needed to play as many tournaments as possible if he wanted to stay in the race for the year-end #1 ranking. Unfortunately, all of the wildcards for this event had already been given out. Desperate, Pete called the only person he could think of: Boris Becker, a longtime rival of Pete's before he retired. There was a lot of mutual respect between the two. Pete asked Boris if he would be using his wildcard, and Boris offered it to him. A classic gesture of sportsmanship between two players who had built up years of mutual respect.

  • 1st round: Sjeng Schalken, def. 7-5 6-4 6-2
