No-one who was present at Dens Park that day will ever forget the atmosphere, the electricity in the air, the
sense of keen anticipation on the packed terraces by those bedecked in tangerine and black.
Six minutes, and at least some of the tension drained away as Ralph Milne seemed to skate over the top of the greasy surface, chipped Colin Kelly from fully thirty yards.
Thirteen minutes, and after Narey was felled in the box, Bannon drove home the resultant penalty at the 2nd attempt. Surely the bandwagon could not be stopped now?
But Dundee defiantly showed they were not there simply to make up the numbers as Ferguson pulled one back, and again the tension mounted. For relief arrived with the sweet music of the final whistle.
An impossible dream had progressed through improbability, to possibility........to reality.
It couldn't happen ; it wouldn't happen ; but it had..................DUNDEE UNITED WERE CHAMPIONS!!!
