ARAB LEGEND NO.9 DAVE BOWMAN |
Dave Bowman signed for United from Coventry City in the summer of 1986 as part of the joint transfer with Jim McInally. He quickly won the hearts of Arabs, who dubbed him 'Psycho', this was due less to his resemblance to actor Anthony Perkins than to that of the character which the actor played in the film of that name!
His tough-tackling, all-action style was certainly effective in United's midfild though it tended to obscure the fact that Bowman was a player with more to offer.
His talents were deservedly recognised by Scotland coach Craig Brown at a time when it seemed full international cap had passed him by.
In recognition of his service to the club, the board granted him a testimonial year (1995/96), by which time his leadership qualities had earned him the job of club captain, and he played an essential role in United's immediate return from The First Division.
Dave left United for Raith Rovers in 1998
