ARAB LEGEND NO.10
EAMONN BANNON

Eamonn Bannon signed for United from Chelsea in October 1979 which established a new record paid by a Scottish Club when he arrived at Tannadice for £165,000.

The penetrative left-sided midfielder made an immediate impact; within two months of arriving he had achieved two firsts - The League Cup with United and a full International cap for himself. An essential ingredient in the great United team of the early eighties, Bannon was a constant threat to opposing defences and scored regularly.

He was particularly effective on The European stage where United played their counter-attacking game to greatest effect. Indeed, he scored what was one of the finest goals ever bt a United player in the never-to-be-forgotten rout of Borussia Moenchengladbach (5-0) in 1981.

After nine excellent years service, his last game for United was The 1988 Scottish Cup Final, following which he returned to Hearts.
