There are wooden benches in between the rows of lockers. The camera turns to catch a someone entering the room.It is a man who appears to have been working out. He has brown hair and brown eyes. His well-defined upper body is drenched in sweat. He notices the camera and walks towards it.) Man: (staring at the camera) Who sent you in here? Cameraman: I am an employee of Neo Japan Pro Wrestling. I am looking for a man named...uhhh... Marc Thomas. Man: I don't know how you found me, but I'm Marc Thomas. What do you want? Cameraman: (in a meek voice) We just want a statement from you about Neo Japan. Do you have anything to say? Marc Thomas: Do I have anything to say? (Laughs) Boy, you have no clue who I am do you? Cameraman: No sir, not really. I was just sent to get some work... MT: I know why you are here. I ain't stupid and I ain't deaf! You want some comments for your little TV show in Japan. I got something for you to tell them. (Marc raises his hand and coils back as if to punch the camera. The cameraman jerks back instinctively. Marc lowers his fist and begins to laugh.) MT: I ain't gonna hit you. I got better things to do with my time than beat the crap out of you. (wipes his face with a towel) I got some words for NJPW. They contacted me a few weeks ago and asked if I wanted to join there new fed. Seeing as how I was on vacation from wrestling, I contemplated the offer and then accepted. You see, they want someone who will put asses in seats. They don't want some sideshow freaks or musclebound idiots who stand in the middle of fireworks. They want someone who can actually wrestle, someone who knows the difference between an armbar and an armchair. That's why they contacted me. I've proven myself over years and years. I'm no flash in the pan, one hit wonder. I'm the real deal!! I've won at least one title each of the last four years and I've beaten some of the best wrestlers in the world to do it. Besides, with all of the rookies currently on their roster, they need someone to teach these young lions the ropes. Don't be mistaken. Just because these guys are young doesn't mean I'm going to take it easy on them. I'm one of the top wrestlers in the world and I didn't get there by taking matches off. I wrestle every match like it’s my last. Those rookies will benefit from just being in the ring with me. Why? Because I'm wiser, I'm quicker, and I'm better than anyone they currently have on their roster. You want to know the real reason NJPW recruited me? Because when that bells sounds there ain't no one better. Now, (pointing to the door) get your ass out of here before I start demonstrating my wrestling knowledge on you! (The camera bobs a little and then moves quickly to the door. The scene fades to black as the camera exits into the hallway.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Genichiro Matsumura: Gaijin Marc Stevens, intimidating our 5’4 cameraman.. interesting to see how he’ll fare in the coming months.. Next is a man who we are very pleased to have sign with us, ‘Hardline’ Bryron Brady! (The day is cold and dreary. The skyline of a large, American city can be seen from a wide pan; the bulk of the cities skyscrapers resting on a triangular peninsula bordered by two battleship gray rivers. Snow covers the landscape and the water resting against the banks of the rivers is covered by a thin plate of ice. After the camera pans past a doughnut-shaped stadium, it tightens its view and goes just wide ofthat stadium, resting on two lone figures--one male, one female--standing in the snow next to a restored stone fort. The man is dressed in a black and gold Pittsburgh Penguin parka and acid washed jeans. he has a shock of thick, dark brown hair that is long up top but shaved very short along the sides. he stands a good foot or more taller than the woman, who wears a bright red, wool overcoat with brass buttons. She also has a black and red plaid scarf around her neck. The man's expression is one of relaxed intensity as he begins to speak.) Byron Brady: You know, there comes a time in most people's lives where they reach a professional crossroads and are forced to make a decision: am I going to stay with my current occupation for the rest of my life, dull and dreary as it is, or am I going to take a chance and find something that I could label my "calling" as opposed to my "job". The man standing before you, "Hard Line" Byron Brady, has come to these crossroads. I know most of the folks viewing this promo may not know me from Adam. AndI'm not going to delve into my history of title reigns, matches won, etc. because that is all prior achievement as I speak to you fans of Neo Japan. (Brady pauses, putting his hands on his hips and contemplating what he will say next.) BB: See, I feel that professional wrestling *is* my calling. (Brady cracks a slight grin) And I've done pretty well thus far. But.....I had grown stagnant and was this close (Brady separates his thumb and forefinger an inch apart from each other) to hanging up my tights for good. BB: About this time my manager, (Brady head motions to the woman standing with him) the Lovely Kelly Lynn, and I were having a discussion about my future and she mentioned Japan. (Brady pauses again) She mentioned Neo Japan and how they were interested in acquiring a top name from the United States to assist in giving this new federation some credibility with the Americans. (Brady chuckles) Like my name on their roster means anything. Everyone who is anyone *knows* that Japan is wrestling's Mecca. The reason so few Americans are well received over here is...well.. because they can't step in and handle the competition of the finest wrestlers in the world. Ask any "insider", read any sheet and when they talk about ability, grit and showmanship, the list of Japanese names is long and varied. Most Americans better hope to have decent mic skills if they want to crack the Top Five of any worthy Best Wrestler poll. We send Japan characters, not wrestlers. (Brady pauses yet again and bores a hole into the camera with his stare) BB: I aim to change all of that. I pride myself on my wrestling acumen and the standards under which I play the game. I have won many accolades, belts, matches, etc. based on this. And now I get to go to The Show of professional wrestling. Japan. This boon that Neo Japan has dropped into my lap gives Byron Brady the chance to see if he can back up the rhetoric he's been spewing for nearly two years. My desire is like a Bessemer oven waiting to melt anything that enters its fiery belly. I come into Neo Japan as a wrestling expert, if there is such a thing, but more as a neophyte. As a foreigner who will have to work doubly hard to earn what I have here in the United States. (Brady smiles wide and warmly) But that's cool by me. because it means that I get to introduce a whole new batch of scumbags to a Walk down the Hard Line. I like the idea of that. (Brady nods to the camera that he has finished and the scene slowly fades to black.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Genichiro Matsumura: Byron Brady, serving notice to the promotion that he is here elevate his own and the promotion’s image.. now let’s go to footage from Gundam X.. Gundam X: "Alex Raptor, you walk to the ring as if you are the gods' gift to it. You walk with danger in your step, sending out your powers to all in the front row that you are not to be defied. Your stance does not bother me. You are not as dangerous as you believe. I would rather let my actions speak for me than my mouth, but the time for silence is past. I must tell all that I will, I must defeat you to advance to my place in the top of Neo Japan. So this is all I will say. If you defeat me, Iwill give you respect and tell all that your claims are true. If I defeat you, I won't think you of you again. Glory in past conquest is disinteresting to me. All I dream of is the future, for we will alllive there someday." (translated loosely from Japanese) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Genichiro Matsumura: The mysterious Gundam X issuing the challenge to Alex Raptor-san! Now I am told we are going to footage from Mexico, here is our final superstar of the day, El Maestro Jr. (A gym in Mexico City, the training ground for many luchadors, El Maestro Jr. sits on the ring apron, drenched in sweat. He's just finished a hellacious workout in preparation for his first tour of Japan) EMJr: (translated from Spanish) I'm looking forward to stepping intotherings of Neo Japan Pro Wrestling. Its come to my attention that I'm one of few if not the only Luchador working for the group, and I see this as an advantage. My hopes are high that I will come home to Mexico not only with great matches and many victories, but with Gold strapped around my waist. I promise to you, the Japanese fans that I will treat your country and your wrestlers with respect, but I will also try my hardest to beat them, and make my people here in Mexico proud, proud of El Maestro Jr. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Genichiro Matsumura: Another man of few words, luchador El Maestro jr. looks to be tuning up for his stint here in Neo Japan Pro.. We look forward to bringing you more ‘Terebi Neo J Bulletin’ and we will see you at the Osaka Prefectural Gym for the premiere of ‘DENKOO PURORESU’! -----------------------
