    9/27 Burnt Hills/Columbia/Niskyuna @ Nisky HS (2.55 miles)

Burnt Hills easily wins the meet and sweeps the top 4 places and 8th place. Chris Camp won in 13:53, Matt R. 14:01, Ben P. 14:11, Dan C. 14:29, and Joe Douchane breaking into the scoring column in 8th in 14:40. 10/2 McQuaid Invitational @ Genesee Vally Park (Rochester, NY)3.0 miles

The Spartans made the annual trip down to Genesee Valley Park to take on some of the best teams in the state, northeast, and even the nation. We finished 5th place overall beating some great teams such as the #3 ranked team in class B NYS, Chitinago (who is still ranked ahead of us this week, bahhhh) and Walsh Jesuit of Ohio, one of Ohio's best teams for a long time. The winning team was Beaver River (a nationally ranked team). Chris Camp finished 13th in 16:01 over the 3.0 mile course. Matt Reilly finished 2ed for our team in 24th in 16:19. B. Pangie ran 16:40 for 38th, Dan Crespin was 48th in 16:48, Chris Dolen was 16:50 (49th). Our JV flexed their muscle at this prestigous meet and won with Mike Dolen finishing 2ed in the Varsity "B" Race.

    10/5 Burnt Hills/Saratoga/Mohonassen @ Moho HS (5K)

It was time for the Spartans to prove themselves. Saratoga is ranked number 3 in the state for Class A teams and is part of NY's fabulous 5 as of 10/3/99. It was as close as it gets as we tied Saratoga 28-28, but lost the tiebreaker when Saratoga put their 6th man in front of our 6th man. What was supposed to be a blow out according to most people turned into a very close race. Kevin Dore (of Saratoga) won in a time of 16:18. Chris Camp came in 2nd in 16:34, Reilly outkicked saratogas second man Andy Schneider in 16:40. Pangie finsihed 5th (16:43), Crespin 6th (16:49), and Joe Douchane 11th. Maybe with Chris Dolen in the race we could have won with his kick outkicking Toga's sixth man. We will just have to yell at him pretty bad tomarrow, mwuhahaha. At least the JV won improving to 6-0 with Adam Bird winning. BH vs. Toga 28-28 (Lost Tie Break) BH vs. Mohon 15-50 Season Record: 4-2

10/9 Burnt Hills Invitational @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

The Varsity team continued their roll with another huge win at our own invitational. We won over Class A's #4 state ranked team Bethlehem (avenging earlier season losses), and the states Class B #2 team Scotia by over 20 points. Chris Camp ran a personal record for the Saratoga course in 15:54.4 for a third place finish. Matt Reilly was next for Burnt Hills in 16:22 (7th Place). Closely followed by the rest of the varsity Ben Pangie in 12th (16:35), Dan Crespin in 14th (16:39), Adam Bird in 19th (16:47). Joe Douchane (17:01) and Chris Dolen filled the 6th and 7th spots for BH. The Varsity top 5 averaged 16:27 for the 5k!

    Teams- 1st-Burnt Hills 55, 2nd-Bethlehem 68, 3rd- Scotia Glenville 78, 4th- Ichabod Crane 149

The JV team swept the first 8 spots to beat the 2ed place team Bethlehem, 15-55. Dave Reinhardt won in 17:21, Mike Dolen followed in 17:29, Ian Vonie, Denis Moffet, Andrew McCarthy, Ken Laskowski, Chris Bonner, and Kyle Folmsbee took the next spots. The JV team is still UNDEFEATED!!!

What about the Frosh Team? The Freshmen won their first invitational of the season led by the 4 foot wonder Nick Marshal in 7th place running 11:45 for the 1.7 mile course. Peter Johnson, Nick Reinhardt, Jacob Button, and Rob Furey (FEEL THE FUREY) completed the scoring for the frosh.

    10/12 Burnt Hills/Guilderland/Colonie @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

A tie in cross country is one of those most rare occurences of the sport. This is not necessarily true for the Spartan Harriers as we tied Guilderland this week but this time actually won the tie breaker with Chris Dolen coming through big time as our 6th man in 17:01! (If we had him last week we would have won.) Matt Reilly lead the way taking 2ed place in a new pr for him, 16:07. Chris Camp was a tad bit slower then saturday (20 seconds slower) running in 4th, 16:14. Ben Pangie tied his personal record for the 5k course running 16:24. Dan Crespin ran 16:31 in 9th place. Joe Douchane was the 5th finisher for BH in 16:52. We improved our top 5 average to 16:25.2. With wins against both Colonie and Guilderland our season record improves to 6 Wins and 2 Losses. Our JV improved to an 8-0 League Record.

Burnt Hills vs. Guilderland 28-28 (WON on the 6th man) Burnt Hills vs. Colonie 21-38 (WON)

10/19 Burnt Hills vs. Shenendahowa @ Shen HS (2.4 mi.)

It was a huge meet, as the Burnt Hills Harriers take on their school rivals, Shen. Shen, for the past few years has been a national powerhouse. Last year they finished the season ranked #3 in the USA, this year the first poll of the year had Shen ranked #21 in the USA. Daryl Andruski (Shen) won the race, Matt Reilly and Camp worked together to kick pass Shen's number 2 and 3 guys in the last hundred meters. Reilly got 2nd in 11:38, and Chris Camp came in 3rd in 11:39. Dan C. ran 12:04, Ben P. ran 12:12, and Chris Dolen ran 12:15 to come in 6th, 7th, and 8th respectively to give the Spartans a huge win over the powerhouse. The win gives us a season record of 7 Wins and 2 Losses. Those losses will surely be avenged come league championship time.

    Burnt Hills-26 Shen-29 WIN

As for the JV, Ken Laskowski put the smack down and won the race as the team completed the season without a loss, the record being 9 wins and 0 losses. The JV looks forward to the suburban council championships where hopefully they will run away with the whole thing.

10/30 Suburban Council Championships @ Saratoga Spa St. Park (5K)

Its now Championship Season and Burnt Hills is now just starting to pick up the pace. A 2nd place finish was the order of the day for the Burnt Hills Varsity. We finished behind the states number one Class A (Large School)team Saratoga by 13 pts. We ended up beating the states (Class A-Large School) #8 Shen, #9 Bethlehem, #12 Shaker, and #20 Guilderland in a very competitive race. Our team averaged 16:05 for the 5K course and Chris Camp, Matt Reilly, and Dan Crespin acheived Suburnban Council All-Star Team status. Chris Camp ran a personal record 15:42 for 4th place, Reilly ran a pr also in 15:53. Dan Crespin made a huge jump to finish 14th with a time of 16:09, Ben Pangie (16:18-18th) and Chris Dolen (16:21-20th) finished close together. Our team is ready to take on all of Section 2's Class B teams next friday in the Sectional Meet. The winning team will qualify for the state championship, Burnt Hills is a heavy favorite going in with our top 5 runners ahead of Queensbury and Scotia 3rd runners.

11/5 Section 2 Championships @ Saratoga Spa St. Park (5K)

It is now crunch time in the XC season, do or die. The winning team goes on to the state championship, all the other teams are done. Burnt Hills Varsity showed what we are made of and won by over 30 points over runner up Queensbury to take the Class B Sectional Crown. The times were not as fast last week but BH surged late to secure the win. Matt Reilly (16:05.2) and Chris Camp(16:05.9) kicked by Scotia's top man to take 5th and 6th place. We followed up with Ben Pangie taking 8th (16:20.2) , Dan Crespin in 10th (16:21.4) and Chris Dolen in at 13th with a 16:35. Putting our top 5 in the top 13 was good enough to win the race, but we also had strong performances from Joe Douchane and Dave Reinhardt grabbing 18th and 19th place in at 16:48. Putting our whole varisty in the top 20. Next week is the New York State Championship. In 1996 our team lead by Steve Lorenc won a State Championship. We hope to bring home the gold for the teams 2ed state championship. Go BURNT HILLS!

@ Westchester Community College, White Plains, NY.

The smell of sweet victory was in the air for the Spartan Harriers. Going into the State Championship, Burnt Hills were underdogs under the heavy favorite Warwick. Warwick has not lost a meet all year. The start was insane with many people taking spills, including our own Chris Dolen. Things were not looking too good heading into the 2nd mile with 3 Warwick runners ahead of our first. We hit the hills in the back woods and had to dig deep. Dan Crespin (normally 3rd or 4th on the team), the hero of the day went right up with Warwick's first man and finished a big 22nd place. Chris Camp and Matt Reilly finished very strong to pass many at the end of the race. Ben Pangie finished very close behind. Joe Douchane completed the scoring in an impressive fashion in 43rd place. Moments later we received unofficial word that Burnt Hills were crowned State Champions. With that, "...Chris Camp took a running start and jumped into the arms of teammate Joe Douchane."--Times Union. The final numbers looked good:

  • Dan Crespin-22nd, 17:43.8 (10 pts.)
  • Chris Camp-28th, 17:50.0 (13 pts.)
  • Matt Reilly-29th, 17:51.2 (14 pts.)
  • Ben Pangie-37th, 18:01.1 (18 pts)
  • Joe Douchane-43rd, 18:09.3 (21 pts.)
  • Dave Reinhardt-69th, 18:30.4
  • Chris Dolen-76th, 18:40.7

11/20 New York Federation Meet (5K)@Wappingers Falls

It has been a long hard season. And the BH-BL Harriers brought it to a close on the 20th day of November. Tired from last weeks extraordinary win we finished 6th in a field of 26 teams, and 252 individual runners. It was the best of the best from all the classes running in the same race on a very challenging 5 kilometer course. Chris Camp finished first for BH in 48th place (17:12.1). Reilly finished just 11 seconds behind but finished in 69th place, which shows the depth of the competition at this meet. Crespin finished 96th, Douchane 107th and Pangie in 112th to round out the top 5. It was a tough race but Burnt Hills really showed some charecter and closed the season in a grand fashion. Next weekend (11/27), M. Reilly, D. Crespin and myself will be competing at Van Cortland Park, Bronx, New York in the Footlocker Northeast Regional Championship.

    Suburban Council Dual Meet Results

The Foot Locker Cross Country North East Regional Championships were on November 27, 1999. They were held at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, New York. The top 8 finishers qualified for the National Championships in Orlando Florida.

The States competing were: New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

I (Chris Camp) made the trip down, and it was not pretty. I finished around 112th place or so (Not exactly sure) and ran a 17:11. I did not really get out that well, I got elbowed into the big Referee Baloon and it was downhill from there. Dan Crespin finished 36th in the Junior race in 17:35. Reilly ran a 17:50.
