September 9th, 2000 Washingtonville Invitational @ Washingtonville HS (Section 9) 3.0 mi.

The Spartan Pack Attack is Back!!! The Spartans toed the line today as defending State Champions. Burnt Hills ran really great for early season form. Still have a long way to go but the improvements made already since the beginning of the training season have been great. The team was missing last years leading runner Chris Camp but showed that we are deep enough and strong enough up front to deal with the temperary loss. Dan Crespin and Ben Pangie had awsome season openers finishing just about at the same time. Dan was 3rd in 16:44.5, Ben was 4th in 16:44.6. Who woulda thought that Chris Bonner would finally be a force in cross country??? He's continuing the Bonner family tradition of excellent cross country running in their senior year. He finished 6th place with a great time of 17:04 (which would be a huge personal record if he was back at Saratoga). Andrew McCarthy came up with a huge race finishing in 11th place in a time of 17:32. Kyle Folmsbee finished the top 5 off with a big 13th place in 17:44. Joe Douchane finshed in 16th place and Ian Vonie ran to a 22nd place finish. A great season opener. Burnt Hills won with a low score of 37 pts. beating out Pine Bush who had 82 pts, Tri-Valley- 83 pts. and North Rockland- 90 pts. The field had 8 teams. Burnt Hills comes back next week at the Johnstown Inviational.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake- 37 pts., Pine Bush- 82 pts., Tri-Valley- 83 pts., Minisink Valley- 90 pts. (8 Teams)

Dan Crespin and Ben Pangie coming down the final strech together!

  • September 16th, 2000 Johnstown Invitational@ Johnstown HS 3.2 mi.

It was a rough day at the Johnstown Invy for the Burnt Hills Varsity. It could have been the air, it could have been the water or the dirty underwear that some guys forgot to change first thing in the morning. But it was a tough "off" day for BH. Pangie led the way in 6th place. Crespin, Bonner, McCarthy, Folmsbee followed behind them. Saratoga dominated the meet and we came in 2nd with Schenectady coming in 3rd. Hopefully the team will be able to bounce back for next weeks invy. I know we can. I know that we are better. We can do it guys.
On a brigter note the JV team won their first race of the year with Ken Laskowski leading the way with his 1st place finish. Denis Moffit came in 2nd in impressive fassion.

The highlight of the day definitly goes to the Freshman team. A young team last year, the froshies struggled in '99 finishing 7th in the suburban council. This year they grew older and matured and gained some young 7th grade talent. They beat a Saratoga team that has one of the best Frosh programs around. Matt Arthur made huge improvements from last year came around and was the first BH'er to cross the line in 4th place with a time of 9:12 for the 1.2 mile course. 7th Grade Sensation Colin Utz-Meagher finished 6th in 9:21. The strong duo of Kevin Koenig and Robbed Furey crossed the line in identical times of 9:32 to finish 9th and 10th respectfully. Tim Jefferys was right behind in 9:43 to pick up 11th place to finish out the top five!

  • September 19th, 2000 Burnt Hills/Niskyuna/Columbia @ Columbia HS 3.0 mi.

Columbia hosted the first dual meet of the season for the Spartans. They hyped it up to be a big showdown with announcers introducing the teams, ice cold water sales for runners finishing the race, and Ricky Martin and the Maccarena on repeat over the speakers. One could hear the music from the farthest hills on the course. All in all a great day for the Spartans.

The Freshman started the day off with an impressive win over traditionally strong Niskyuna frosh team. Kevin Koenig was the man of the day winning his first race ever in the time of 9:17 over 1.5 miles!!! Bradon Gill a new comer to Burnt Hills Cross Country (His brother Tyler a member of the greatest punk rock band of all time SubPar) finished right behind Kevin to pick up a great 2nd place finish. 7th grade sensation Colin Utz Maeger finished a strong 3rd not too far behind! The freshman easily won and begin the season 2-0.

The Junior Varsity team was next. Burnt Hills has always had one of the strongest JV teams ever. They proved it against Nisky and Columbia by sweeping the first eight places! Denis Moffit, Ian Vonie, Adam Platka and Tom Reinhardt finished within 4 seconds of each other to pick up the first four spots. The JV beat both Columbia and Nisky by scores of 15-50. On another note Matt Arthur (9th grade) raced his first 3 mile course and finished 8th for BH beating out Nisky's first JV runner. The girls varsity team was led by Leah Folmsbee and Sarah Mollard (2nd and 5th). The girls beat Columbia by a narrow score of 26-29 and beat Nisky pretty handily.

The Varsity guys bounced back from Saturday's race to sweep the first three places. Ben Pangie (16:58), Dan Crespin (17:01) and Chris Bonner (17:02) formed the top three. Andrew McCarthy and Joe Douchane picked up 6th and 7th place. The Varsity guys start the season off with a record of 2 wins and 0 losses

    Burnt Hills-15 Nisky-50, Burnt Hills-19 Columbia-41

  • September 23rd, 2000 Guilderland International Invitational @ Tawesenta Park (2.7 mi.)

The Guilderland Invy is always a fun invy for all. The frosh took 3rd place behind a strong 13th place by Matt Arthur. The JV team also acheived 3rd place. The varsity had another tough day and finished 4th in the Bill Drake Championship Race. Pangie led the way with a time of 15:13. Dan Crespin was not far behind and Ken Laskowski, Chris Camp and Andrew McCarthy finished right next to each other. Chris Camp made his glorious return to XC after a brief hiadeous and finished 22nd place in for a medal.

The girls varsity took it to the competition in the seeded race and won handily. Leah Folmsbee lead the way with a 16:57 winning time. Sarah Mollard followed closely.

  • September 26th, 2000 Burnt Hills/Mohon/Saratoga @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

The Burnt Hills Varsity took their first loss of the dual meet season but managed to beat Mohon at least in the process. Moving their record to 3 wins and 1 loss. Pangie led the way with a 16:27, Crespin close behind with a 16:47. Ken Laskowski set a really nice personal record breaking 17 for the first time (16:55). Andrew McCarthy bumped major seconds off the personal record also with a 17:05. Chris Camp ran his 2nd race off of his injury and mustered up a 17:10 in his efforts.

The freshman remain undefeated this week with their 4-0 record!!! This one was a nailbiter as BH and the Toga frosh came to a 28-28 tie but Burnt Hills won off their 6th man, Rob "Feel the Furey" who ran a new personal record on the 1.8 mile course (11:47). Stand out frosh performances include Matt Arthurs huge pr and 3rd place finish running a solid 11:13. Kevin Koenig was next in the BH pack running 11:17. Colin Utz finished in 11:22 with Bradon Gill following. Nick Marshal finished 8th overall with a time of 11:39.
The JV team also remains undefeated with beatings of the 'Toga and Mohon JV teams. They won with a solid pack, Ian Vonie leading the way with a 17:46. Adam Platka and Tom Reinhardt both broke 18 mins with 17:59's! A great time for Platka, hes gonna have an awsome hockey season. Pete Johnson and Denis Moffit also finished together in 18:00 and 18:02 respectivley. Dan Briggs turned in a huge 2 1/2 min. personal record showing that he can do more then just jump over hurdles and play football. He ran a solid 18:15 and he's very excited about getting one of coaches runners of the week shirts!

  • September 30th, 2000 McQuaid Invitational @ Genesse Valley Park (3.0 mi.)

Do not count the Burnt Hills Spartan Cross Country out of 2000 NY State "B" Title contention yet!!! The Varsity turned their season around with big performances from everyone at the elite race in Rochester, the McQuaid Invy. The BH pack is improving rapidly with every meet, everyones setting personal records every race. Dan Crespin set the BH standard finishing in 12th place in 16:19. Chris Camp in only his third race back is coming closer and closer to getting back in shape as he picked up a 17th place finish in 16:32 (not too far off of his 16:01 time from last year). After that BH packed in their top 7 very quickly before any other teams finished their whole 7. Andrew McCarthy finished right behind Camp in 16:34, a huge personal record. Mc ran 17:30 last year at McQuaid. Ben Pangie was the next finisher in at 16:39 (23rd). Chris Bonner closed out the top 5 in 16:40 which got him 24th place (also an amazing personal record). The rest of the top 7 was not far behind. Ken Laskowski ran 16:43 for 24th and Joe Douchane ran 16:51 for 37th place. Packing all 7 into the top 40!!! Unfortunatley Burnt Hills ended up missing the team championship by two points. Xavier won with 77 pts., BH with 79. Still a very positive race though as we beat top teams from Ohio (Walsh Jesuit, Sweet Home, Chardon), PA (Bradford, Cathedral Prep) and Top NY teams including #2 in Class B Canton, #7 Chittenango and #10 Newark! Pictures coming soon. For team results go to McQuaid Results. For Individual Results go to McQuaid Ind. Results

    Xavier-77, Burnt Hills-79, Walsh Jesuit-104, Canton-108, Sweet Home-141, Chittenango-167, Newark-169, Mt. St. Joseph-178, Chardon-214, Bradford-248, Cathedral Prep-251

The JV Boys were on a mission. They had to defend their "Varsity B" title from last years McQuaid meet... and that they did. In brilliant fashion. Ian Vonie led the way with huge 2nd place finish in 17:30. Kyle Folmsbee, Denis Moffit, Adam Platka, John Hoffman, Mike White, and Jamie Black (to name a few) packed in there well and won with a low score of 28 pts. Well ahead of runner up Walsh Jesuit.

The boys frosh/soph team was led by Dan Briggs running 18:02. He finished in 24th place in his first major cross country race. Wow Briggs, glad you switched from football? I told you that you'd like XC better. The young team finished 6th in the standings but had some awsome individual efforts. Some include Mike Lee's scintilating performace, running more then two minutes faster then his personal record, posting a time of 18:30. Tim Pannica also broke 19 for the first time running 18:51! Pete Johnson, Matt Arthur and Jacob Button (who threw up before the race) all had great races.

The girls varsity finished a huge 2nd to boost their confidence not to mention their rankings. Leah Folmsbee led the way with a big 10th place. Sarah Mollard finished 24th. The girls packed it very nicely today! Maura Kinney, Kristen Wayman and Erin Rightmeyer finished right behind Sarah.

  • October 3rd, 2000 Burnt Hills/Colonie/Avrill Park/Guilderland @ Tawesenta Park (2.7 mi.)

The Burnt Hills Varsity dropped a decision against Guilderland 21-34. But picked up wins against Colonie and Avrill Park. Ben Pangie finished with a 15:11. Chris Camp, still making improvments off of an injury, got down to 15:15. The rest of the top 7 (Laskowski, McCarthy, Crespin, Bonner, Douchane) finished within 20 seconds of each other. Just need to move the pack up boys and we'll be looking pretty good. The Varsity record is now 5 wins and 2 losses.

The Junior Varsity improved their record to a perfect 7 wins and 0 losses. Ian Vonie led the way. The Freshman also improve their record. They are also undefeated. Matt Arthur led the way in 2nd. Then Colin Utz-Maeger in at 3rd. Kevin Koenig was 4th.

  • October 10th, 2000 Shen vs. Burnt Hills @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

Not a good showing today for Burnt Hills. A loss to Shen was the order of the day. Burnt Hills continues to improve though. Noteable PR's include Chris Bonners huge jump down to 16:35. Dan Crespin led the Spartans with a 16:19. Not a great day, but an improvement in the future will put BH above the other teams. The JV and freshmen also lost and will look to avenge their losses at the Suburban Council Championship.

  • October 14th, 2000 Burnt Hills Invitational @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

The varsity had a new look today for the BH-BL Invy. 5 of the top 7 varsity runners had to attempt to get into a better college with their SAT's and were unable to compete. So 5 JVers came up through the ranks to run on the big show varsity team. The team ended up running to 2nd place in the team race! Our JV team got 2nd in the Varsity race! Wow! It wasn't even the full JV because a bunch of them were taking SATs also! Wow! They finished behind Scotia's Varsity. Andrew McCarthy and Joe Douchane finished 7th and 8th to lead BH in their home invy. McCarthy ran 16:58, Douchane ran to a 17:00. Denis Moffit and Ian Vonie finished in a cluster of 17:33 and 17:34. Adam Platka ran 18:08 in his first Varsity apperance, Dan Briggs followed up the pack with an 18:17.

In the JV race John Hoffman led the way with an 18:02 personal record and a 3rd place finish to lead the JV team that was missing some people due to moving up to varsity. The JV ended up winning big time! Awsome. The Frosh also took the victory.

  • October 17th, 2000 Shaker/Bethlehem/Burnt Hills @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

The Varsity is back and the improvement is still continuing. Bethlehem ranked 1st in the state for Class A schools beat BH but BH will be more competitive come Suburbans, times will be down further and the run to the 2nd straight BH State Championship will be alive again. Burnt Hills handed Class A #6 school Shaker a big loss (19-39). Crespin led the way once again with a 16:05 personal record! Chris Camp keeps on improving with every race after his injury. He finished 5th overall running 16:10, 30 seconds down from last week, 30 seconds away from the personal record! Joe Douchane had the most impressive improvement of the day. Before the race he said "My personal record is so far off guys (16:43), I dont know how I'll ever get back down to it!" He suprised not only us but himself big time with an awsome run of 16:25 crushing his previous time. An awsome race for Joe. Ben Pangie matched his time from two weeks ago running a 16:29 for the course. Andrew McCarthy enedup running a huge PR also with a 16:40 to round out the top 5. Chris Bonner finished right behind Mc with a 16:43 and Ken Laskowski put up a nice PR too with a 16:50. The team average was 16:22! A great average. If these kind of races keep coming with more and more improvment then skies the limit. Everyone on the Varsity is right next to each other and has kept pushing each other to faster and faster times. The end of the season dual meet record for the Varsity ends up being 6 wins and 4 losses. Not a great record but things will make up for it by the end.

The pr's did not end with the Varsity. The JV team easily won against both teams making their record 9 wins and 1 loss. Kyle Folmsbee led the way with a 17:20 which was a big personal record. Adam Platka cut big seconds off his time running a 17:21. This is while wearing trainers and having major shin splints folks. He is running great. Ian Vonie and Denis Moffit both finished close together at around 17:30. Dan Briggs had a really nice pr going under 18 mins for the first time in a big way by running 17:47. Jacob Button also ran well with his 17:51 PR. The frosh lost to Shaker and won against Bethlehem. Kevin Koenig led the way with his 11:12 personal record. Good job.

  • October 28th, 2000 Suburban Council Championships @ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

The team got themselves ready for this race with a huge pasta dinner with both guys and girls attending having a grand time. The varsity guys finished 3rd in a strong field with at least 6 of the states highly ranked teams. Crespin led the way by breaking 16 mins for the first time in at 15:51. Chris Camp followed in 16th place overall. Ben Pangie cracked the top 20 running a 16:19 one second off his PR. Ken Laskowski ran a really great PR of 16:27 coming down about 30 seconds off of his previous time. Joe Douchane and Andrew McCarthy ran 16:38 and 16:39 respectively.

The JV guys won in impressive fashion the 2000 Suburban Council Championship title. Denis Moffit led the way with a great PR of 17:09, picking up the third place finish. Ian Vonie and Adam Platka finished 6th and 7th respectively both under 17:30. Jon Hoffman knocked another 21 seconds off his personal record running a 17:39. Jacob Button and Dan Briggs both ran strong races finishing just over 18 minutes.

The Freshman team came back with a vengence this year after last year finishing a disapointing 7th. Matt Arthur led the way in 8th place (11:06) to bring the Froshies to a 2nd place Team Standing behind Shen. John Mueller ran an awsome personal record chopping off major time to get 9th place in at 11:07. Nick Reinhardt and Nick Marshal both broke 11:20 and David Jones, Kevin Koenig, Bradon Gill and Rob Furey were just over. A great team effort by everyone.

  • November, 3rd 2000 Section 2 Championships- Class B@ Saratoga St. Park (5K)

10 Burnt Hills runners moved on to the Sectional meet to show their depth to all of Class B. In the biggest race of the day the Class B race consisted of 17 teams and 150+ runners. Burnt Hills ended up winning their 6th Section 2 Championship in 8 years. BH used their "killer pack attack" to win this one. With Dan Crespin having a little bit of an "off" race (16:21 for an off race is pretty damn good if you ask me) and Chris Camp still improving after his injury dilema the BHers had no one way up front. Chris Camp finished 8th leading the way in 16:08. Dan Crespin picked up 10th getting 16:21. Douchane and Pangie came in right behind Dan in 11th and 12th running 16:22 and 16:23. McCarthy ran a personal record of 16:30 to pick up the 14th spot and Ken Laskowski got 15th in 16:32. The top 6 in the top 15 is pretty awsome! Our top 6 finished before any team had three runners in. The final scores turned out to be like this:

    Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake-55, Queensbury-69, Albany Academy-102, Scotia-Glenville-118, Avrill Park-119, IchaBod Crane-189, Cobleskill-Richmondville-240, Johnstown-240, Schalmont-284, Mohonassen-301, Gloversville-304, Ballston Spa-306, Ravena-335, Hudson Falls-352, Glens Falls-397, Bishop Maginn-416, South Glens Falls-531

Burnt Hills will now make a return apperence at the 2000 New York State Cross Country Championships! Can the magic from last years amazing State Championship win come back? Will the pack attack prevail? Will Burnt Hills continue the tradition and win the State Championship for the third time? All these questions will be answered next weekend. As a showdown of the states greatest powers forms. Warwick from Section 9 is looking for blood after losing last year and getting third after being called the big favorites. They are once again the favorites going into the race. Sayville who finished 2nd last year is very close to ability in BH but their 5th guy is wayyyyyy back. The excitement is coming back, anyone can step up to help us win. Lets go for it Men.
