It may not have huge ramifications for Denis Pagan, but all
connected with the Munich Kangaroos Football Club are
not the least bit happy.
The German Australian Rules Football League '98
season-opener saw the Munich Kangaroos suffer a
five-point loss to Frankfurt Redbacks.
Played in sunny conditions at the Frankfurt Ostpark before
literally a passing crowd, the Kangaroos, resplendent in
the new-look North jumper with a kangaroo on the front,
squandered a 14-point three-quarter time lead.
While PVC tubing acted as makeshift goal posts and
witches hats marked the boundary line, one tradition not
lost on the predominantly German players was the
aftermath.
Our correspondent, Stephen Robertshawe, who booted
five goals for the winners, reports to both teams suffering
massive hangovers.
Fortunately, there's plenty of recovery time in the GARFL
- the next game is not until June 20, when the action
swings to Munich.
