MAIN NEWS RESULTS FIXTURES PLAYERS HISTORY HEROES FANTALK |
RECORD GOALSCORERS 1997-8Club captain and midfielder Morton Titterton led the way in 97-8 with an impressive 18 goals for the club - none more memorable than than 39th minute goal against Kettering Town in the FA Cup. Craig Martin, one of United's most popular players thanks to his long standing success with Hinckley Athletic under John Hanna, again made a valuable contribution with 14. Youngster of the season was Chris Partridge, whose 14 goals came in just 30 appearences - 18 less than Morton Titterton and Craig Martin. What price Partridge for top scorer next season? Record signing John Symonds, bought from Nuneaton Borough in early season also made his presence felt.Wayne Spencer and Tony Hamilton were early season departures from the 'Lane, but Scott Machin, asked to play up front after a frustrating period of injuries to other players weighed in with five. Perhaps the most unfortunate man of the season, however, was Jon Graham who after scoring a historic first League goal for the club sustained a career threatening injury early in the season.
