  • THE HOLYWELL GROUND 1889-1939

On the formation of the club in 1889 the Holy Well (or Holywell) ground, on London Road, Hinckley was used by the club. In those times the teams had to change at the Holywell Inn which stood at the back of the ground behind the goal at the east end. The ground itself sloped substantially from goal to goal and was always reckoned to be worth a few goals to the teams when kicking downhill towards the railway end.

This ground was used right through until the outbreak of the Second World War and, sadly, no photographs which show the ground and its facilities or programmes issued for games played on the ground appear to have survived the passage of time (if you know otherwise, please get in touch!). However, it is known that the "Workhouse" was situated at the top of the ground and that the facil ties at the time of the Second World War included a stand, spion kop and dressing rooms. Sadly although the "Workhouse" building remains, as does the Holywell Inn, the site is now covered by buildings of the Hinckley College of Further Education. No other traces of the ground remain.
