Town went to the impressive Abrahams Stadium to hopefully get back on track in the league after the two consecutive losses, knowing full well that by putting away their chances they could beat any side. Oh dear, same old story. Town did their usual trick by making the game as difficult as possible by giving the opposition a goal in the first couple of minutes. This time it was down to the inability of defender Mark Thompson and goalie Freeman to cope with a backpass. Thompson's backpass was slightly too short and Freeman failed to clear to leave the Wingate striker to tuck the ball in from an impossible angle. Then later in the first half a Wingate player had a free header from a corner and it was 2-0. Although Town were more than matching the opposition in open play it was agin sloppy defending that let them down. Thompson was playing out of position at the back and this was painfully obvious, when he moved upfield in the second half he scored a screamer from 25 yards, but by this time Town were already 3-0 down and it was too late. Although there were injuries with a few key players out Town really had no excuses. Tighter defending and they could easily have won 1-0, it is hardly suprising the management are desparate for a centre back. Gary Smith returned from injury but didn't do much, and the promising Craig Wall was given his full debut only to be rather ineffective.
