The teams kicked off early on the cold Boxing
Day afternoon and it was Marlow who initially looked the more dangerous,
wasting a
few chances early on. Wokingham looked solid
on the break however, with new signing Shane Small doing some excellent
hold up
work alongside Gary Blake. The centre back
pairing of Leacock and Walkington were tested on a few occasions and both
men did
exceptionally well not to concede under
some first half pressure from Marlow, whose number 9 probably broke the
record for the
number of times he was caught offside in
the first half. But it was Wokingham who broke the deadlock on 40 minutes.
Good work on
the left flank from Whall and Horsted resulted
in a free kick just outside the box, which Shane Small fired into the near
post for Gary
Blake to score with considerably aplomb.
1-0 Wokingham at half time.
The fans nearly died of frostbite during
the half time interval before the teams came out again. Marlow continued
some of their first half
pressure in the second half and gained quite
a few corners, which were well dealt with by the defence, particularly
Leacock and
Walks. Wokingham created a few chances on
the break, notably from Gary Blake and Johnny Horsted. Marlow's pressure
did
eventually pay off however, after a number
of corners, the fired in from close range. Wokingham held on well for the
draw, probably the
fairest result on the day.
Special mention must go to the Marlow fans
who unfortunatley did not get a new song for Christmas this year and were
stuck with
their crap old chant of "Come on Marlow".
Maybe next year if they're good eh Santa?....
