IU Basketball

Welcome to my Hoosiers page. I have to admit that Indiana always has a good basketball team, whenever they play at home! However, It seems they are not so good when they can't rip off their opponents all the time. Over the last three seasons, Indiana has averaged 31.4 free throw attempts at home compared to 18.7 on the road. Kinda tells ya something doesn't it? Here is a breakdown of the Hoosiers' road games over the last three seasons:

One day in late October of 1997, Bob Knight visited long time friend Gene Keady, at one of Purdue's practices. Knight said, "Gene, whether you have much talent or not, you always get a great deal of success out of your players. Yet every year, I recruit at least one All-American, if not more, and we always finish in the middle of the conference. How do you do it?" Gene Keady said "Well, Bobby, it's not always talent that counts, I always try to recruit players that seem fairly smart, as well. Watch this." Gene then called over Purdue guard Chad Austin and asked, "Chad, who is your father's brother's nephew?" Chad replied, "Well, that's easy Coach, it's me".

The next day, Knight returned to Bloomington for the Hoosiers' practice. He called over forward Andre Patterson, and asked, "Andre, who's your father's brother's nephew?" Patterson paused for a few seconds, and said, "Gee, I don't know Coach, I'd have to think about that one." Knight told Patterson to think about it and be ready to answer the next day.

Later that day, Patterson called all his teammates up and asked them the same question. They all said they would call him back if they figured it out. About 10:00 that night, no one had called. Andre was getting very worried because he knew if he couldn't answer, he would for sure be taken out of the starting lineup. Finally, at about 10:30, he got a call from guard A.J Guyton. Guyton said, "I figured out the answer to your question, it's me".

So the next day, a very relieved Andre Patterson came to practice. Sure enough, Knight called him over. Knight asked, "Well, have you figured it out yet?" Patterson said, "Yes, Coach it's A.J. Guyton!" Knight replied, "No, you dumbbutt, it's Chad Austin from Purdue!!!!!!!!".
