Lilly felt sick as she awoke with her tongue covered with a oily rag. She found that her eyes were covered with a rag and a second rag was wrapped around her mouth, preventing her from spitting the horrible cloth out. She tried to lift her hands to uncover her eyes, but found that they were tied together and an arm was pinning them to her body. She felt the horse under her moving and icy wind sting her body. She heard hundreds of horses hoofbeats clopping quickly against the hard packed ground and she could only guess how many men there were, how fast they were moving, and were they were headed. Her fear began to rise and she struggled against the arm wrapped loosely around her. She felt the arm suddenly tighten and press her against a body. The arm pressed against her was so tight that she suddenly found that she could no longer breathe. She wisely stopped fighting her abductor and she felt the arm relax. The rag over the eyes absorbed her tears. She was scared, confused, and her thin nightgown wasn’t enough to keep the night’s chill away, and her lack of underthings didn’t help the problem. She could only sit there, pressed up against the man, and pray that the army from the village were in pursuit of the enemy.
The Undertaker had immediately noticed Lilly on one of his men’s horses, and had wanted to have her as his own. He had paid way too much for her, but it was enough to keep questions away.
‘What a sight it will be when we rest for the night and she finds that she’s with me.’ he thought as he led his army further away form the town. He was lost in his thoughts until he noticed his brother ride up beside him. They both glanced at each other briefly, a slight smile of greetings passed between them, then his brother dropped back to the cluster of men behind him. The Undertaker was glad that his younger brother had come to aid him in his escape. The thought of continuing to ride all night in order to return to his homeland faster crossed his mind, but he knew that it was out of the question for he knew that his men were growing weary and he had received reports that a few were wounded and needed to be tended to. He felt Lilly again shift under his arm and just before he was about to press her against him again, she turned her head to the side, laid her head on his chest, and although he could not hear anything but the thunder-like sounds of horse hoofbeats, he felt the air in her body leave her lungs in a long, deep sigh. He was lucky that his men could not see his face for he would have a hard time explaining his smile. Lilly had fallen asleep in his arms.
