Night Rhythms... Chapter Nine

Alicia tried so hard to listen to the man’s words, but never had she seen such an exciting place! Though the company’s doctor was talking to her in his accented voice, she wanted to observe the excitement around her. Looking intently at the doctor, she watched as he busied himself stitching up the forehead of a large man by the name of ‘Droz’. A deep cut that ran along the length of his hairline was oozing with blood that she absorbed with a sponge. The man was huge, yet the doctor was able to keep him still as he put the finishing touches on the stitches, then after giving him some pills to ease the pain, he sent the man on his way. As Alicia helped the doctor clean up, she asked him questions that she would ask any employer. He had said that this had to of been one of the best jobs he had ever had. Free rooms and travel, you get to meet interesting people, and see the country. Alicia had always wanted to travel, but she loved her job so much that she just couldn’t bear going away. But upon hearing that she would be able to travel freely and continue to do the job she loved so much. She had barley enough time to wash her hands before a man with shoulder length curly hair stumbled into the room, holding his thick shoulder that was bent at a painful angle. The doctor instructed the man to sit in the chair and set about working on the man’s shoulder with Alicia standing ready on the other side of the chair, ready to help. After a while, she was bent over the man, pressing a cloth soaked with a horrible smelling liquid over a slit in the skin where the bone had broken through.

She didn’t know that she had come close to making a man’s heartbeat and breathing to stop.
