Night Rhythms... Chapter Six

Wiping the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand, Alicia fumbled with her keys and finally found the right key and jammed it into the keyhole of her front door and turning the poor key with all of her might. She pushed heavily on the door and it swung open so hard that she had to check to see if the doorknob made a hole in the wall when she stepped into her house and slammed the door shut. She stumbled to the couch in her living room and sat down in her anger and sadness.

Fired! How could she be fired?! She had been working there for years, now all of the sudden they had found someone more qualified than her?

She raised herself from the couch to look for a box of Kleenex. Finding one, she angrily pulled out one and wiped the tears from her eyes, knowing that her mascara must be horribly smeared. She dropped her arms to her sides and took a deep breath, trying to get herself to calm down. Deciding that a shower would help, she stumbled down her dark hallway and rounded the corner, flipping the bathroom light on. She turned the hot water on and let it run for a minute as she went to her bedroom closet to grab her faded but comfortable off white bathrobe. Returning to the bathroom that was quickly filling with steam, she closed the door and hung the robe a hook on the wall. Quickly removing her clothes and leaving them in a pile on the tile floor, she jumped into the shower before all the hot water was used up, not knowing that her image was haunting someone’s mind.
