Night Rhythms

Alicia was wandering through the empty halls of the arena, looking for a ride to the hotel.  She had made the mistake of making Val angry, so now she had no way to get to the hotel and she had spent the last of her money on the cab.  Only a few people were left, people who were packing the last of the boxes in a single truck that sat alone in the garage.  It was late and she was so tired that at this point she didn't care who she got a ride from.  She approached the men who laughed at her when she had told them her story and denied her the ride.  She turned away from them and walked back into the dark hallway that was lit only lit by every other ceiling light, casting the once busy arena into an almost scary place to be.

She was walking back to the room that had been used for the doctors' office, hoping that by some miracle the doctor would be there to give her a ride.  She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice she was being followed.

"Need a ride?"  A deep, undoubtedly male voice asked.

She spun around on her heel and there he was, half covered in shadows and no less than five feet away, lounging against the wall.  She recognized him as the handsome man that she had cared for in the hospital, man who had called her an 'angel', and man whom she had been advised to stay away from.

     "Yes . . . I do."  She said in a shaky voice.

The man pushed himself away from the wall and approached her with his hand outstretched in friendship.

"My name is Mark."  He said as he drew closer.

"Alicia."  She replied as she accepted his hand.

The two stood there for a minute, neither one really wanting to let go of each other's hand.  His was large and the skin felt a bit rough, but held her hand gently.  Hers was soft and tiny with long feminine fingers that looked small compared to his own large fingers.  Their skin only left the others when her tiredness began to claim her and she pulled her hand out of his.  Even though he didn't want to, he let her go.

     "Are you tired?"

She couldn't help but laugh a bit at his question.  "Yes I am.  I'm afraid that I've greatly underestimated how much work I would have to do here."

Mark continued to ask questions as they made to his truck and continued the quiet talking on the ride to the hotel.  She was surprised that this giant of a man could be so quiet and secluded.  Unlike Val, he wasn't loud or rude at all.  She would of never have guessed that a wrestler could of been such good company.

She had guessed that this night was over and she would finally be able to get some sleep, but she had forgotten one small thing.  Val was extremely upset that she had left him in the middle of their date and had a small surprise for her when she went to the hotel.
