Night Rhythms

Standing with the Corporate Ministry, The Undertaker quietly stood with Bearer at his right side. He was adjusting his wrist guards when he, for no apparent reason, looked up at the open door across the hallway at the ‘doctor’s office’.

He momentarily lost his breath at the sight of his angel. Everything around him faded as his full attention was focused on her. She was washing her hands, getting ready to help the doctor. She was dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans that, although plain, accented her tiny body. Her black hair was again pulled back in a loose braid that framed her face. He saw her turn away from the sink and he turned away from the door quickly. He suddenly felt a burning feeling crawl over him and he knew exactly what it meant. His angel was looking at him.

The doctor was bent over a backstage hand who had accidentally wandered into something called a ‘Hardcore Match’ and was waiting for her to help him. She was pulling on a pair of rubber gloves and turned away from the sink when she saw him. The doctor and the patient were forgotten.

‘Dear God. . . it couldn’t be!’ she thought as looked at the man who looked extremely familiar. To say that he was tall was putting it lightly. He was a monster! Standing a foot over everyone who was around him, he wore a long black robe that was as black as his long hair. His back was to her and she wished that he would turn around so she could see his face. She felt her heartbeat and breathing quicken as she looked at him. The doctor had to say her name three times to get her attention. She somehow managed to turn toward the doctor and the man moaning in pain, but her eyes wanted to remain on the man all in black.

Giving herself a strong mental shake, tried hard to concentrate on her work, but she just couldn’t. She again looked at the man, but her view was suddenly blocked by a chest.

"Hey babe!" Val said as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Val please don’t." Alicia said as she tried to look around Val to see the man.

Looking at the doctor, Val asked if he could ‘borrow’ Alicia for the night. Upon hearing that it was OK, Val took Alicia by the arm and led her out of the room and tried to lead her down the hallway and to the garage, but she pulled her arm out of his grasp.

"No Val." she said as her eyes remained on the back of the man.

"You wanna play games? Fine with me." With that said, he hauled her over his large shoulder and began carrying her down the hallway.

She was causing a scene, but she didn’t care. "Val please put me down!" she exclaimed. Every head in the hallway turned to watch them, except his. She struggled against him, trying to break his hold. "Val, put me down! Please put me down!" Only then did the man in black turn to look at her.

"Oh my goodness!" she cried, not meaning to say it aloud, but she could not suppress her surprise. What was he doing here!? He had been in the hospital in her hometown just a few days ago! How could he be here?! Upon seeing the familiar and handsome man, she ‘fought’ Val harder. "Val put me down this instant!" Although she struggled, her eyes never left the man. She watched with wide eyes as he mouthed two words that only she knew. She had been so shocked at the word that she went limp on Val’s arm, but her eyes remained on him until he was out of her sight.
