Mark released Venis quickly and backed into the shadows, hiding behind a nearby tree. Val had put a hand up to shield his eyes from the blinding light, trying to see who it was.
In her fear, Alicia had accidentally turned the intensity of the floodlight up to the highest power, causing blinding white light to stream across her backyard. Realizing that the light was so bright that even she couldn’t see, she turned the power down a bit to see a dazed Val standing in the middle of the backyard with a look of pure confusion on his face. Breathing a sigh of relief, she ran down the wood steps of her patio and to Val who had fallen to his knees, rubbing his eyes.
"What are you doing here Val? Why aren’t you at the hotel? How did you know where I live? Did you follow me home?" She helped the dazed Val to his feet by wrapping a slender arm around his waist and guided him to her home, continuing to ask him questions. She helped him up the stairs and into her home as she shut her door behind them, all the while Val rubbed his eyes.
Mark crept up to the window to see that his angel was in her living room with Val sitting on the edge of her couch as she knelt in front of him, trying to open his eyes with her fingers to see the damage. He watched as she carefully opened his eyes that were red and swollen from the rubbing. As she was innocently trying to see if he was all right, he could see that Val’s eyes were looking straight down her nightgown as she knelt in front of him.
His anger was threatening to claim him when he saw that Venis was taking advantage of her innocence. He couldn’t watch anymore. He stepped away from the window, still angry with Venis, but he wanted his angel to know that someone else besides Venis had been here as well. He remembered when Venis had knocked over her plants and an idea came to him.
Carefully walking up her steps, he saw the dirt that covered almost the entire floor of the patio. Bending down to one knee, he carefully wrote in the dirt, although it was hard with only the moonlight to see by. When he finished, he straightened and went back down her steps and left her property, not looking back, sure that she would know that he had been there. Walking up to his truck that was parked on the side of the street and drove away as his anger simmered down, sure that his beautiful angel would know that he had been near her.
As soon as she looked at her patio floor and read his message.
