C.J. Leake has been a recruiting priority for Tennessee for over a year, and the Vols are definitely the team to beat for his signature.  Leake is continually rated among the top 5 QB/Athletes in the country.  Most schools recruiting him have promised him a chance to show what he can do at QB, but if he cannot start at QB he will definitely be on the field somewhere, probably at WR or DB.  I have heard his 40-yard-dash time to be as fast as 4.5 or as "slow" as 4.7; suffice it to say, he is fast!  Despite his running ability, C.J. has thrived as a passer in Charlotte Independence's "West Coast" type of offense, putting up staggering passing numbers in the last two seasons (more below).  C.J. has visited the Tennessee campus numerous times unofficially; he was seen at games last fall, and sighted several times observing the Vols' spring practice and the Orange and White Game.

Max Emfinger, recruiting analyst from Louisiana, had this to say about Leake in March:

"C.J. Leake is a super-star athlete who can play a lot of positions in college, but I think will get a chance to play quarterback at most schools…In his sophomore and junior seasons, C.J. has already passed for 3,464 yards, completing 334 passes out of 430 attempts…Leak also passed for 35 TD’s in those two seasons and ran for another 15 TD’s while rushing for 350 yards…C.J. tells me that he has been used exclusively as a quarterback in the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade, but he could play wide receiver,
running back, or safety in college…He also said that he has already been offered by 17 different schools to play quarterback…C.J. carries a fine 3.7 GPA in the classroom and has already scored a 920 on his SAT test…C.J. lists Tennessee, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Boston College as his top for favorite schools…This kid may be one of the top players in the country next year…He certainly has all of the tools…"
