Miskelly
to be loaned ?
'Keeper
David Miskelly has revealed that he may spend some part of next season
away from the club on loan. The 20 year old is understudy to Gary Kelly,
who recently signed a new two year contract at Boundary Park. Miskelly
said: "It has been very frustrating not having had many chances to break
into the first team, but it is a case of having to bide my time. "The manager
has told me he is willing to let me go on loan to get first team football
which is something I would welcome.
"I almost went
last season but any moves had to be put off when Jamie Campbell, one of
our other young keepers, broke a finger."
New
venue for reserves ?
The Latics
second string may have to find a new venue for their games next season,
to protect the Boundary Park pitch. A new surface is being laid at a cost
of around £30,000. Experts say that the poor condition of the old
pitch was partly due to overuse because it was used by three teams, the
senior side, the reserves and the town's rugby league club. A couple of
seasons ago the second string played a Stalybridge Celtic's Bower Fold
ground.
Miskelly's
accidental vocation
David Miskelly says
he only became a keeper by accident. The 20 year old revealed: "I was 15
and when somebody got hurt I volunteered to go in goal. "Before that I
was a midfield player and I was invited for a trial for Northern Ireland
under-15's, but I never went because I had changed positions." The youngster
had only been between the sticks for a month when Wolves invited him over
for trials. Then the Latics showed an interest in Miskelly. He added: "Shortly
after that the Latics came in for me and I have enjoyed my time here. "When
you look at the young players who have come through the ranks, they are
a good club to begin your career with."
