Headlines
Gary I
echo the comments of Jon from London, I have only been receiving the e-zine
for a few weeks and it has changed my life! I don't know how you find the
time to do it! but it is really appreciated! I now feel a part of the club
again, rather than a person who used to go to the occasional away match
not knowing why someone was or was not playing, who was playing well ,
who was injured etc. I
now can't wait for the season to start and my first 'local' away match
- Walsall! The odds of 40-1 seem a bit long taking in to account the form
of the second half of last season! but we do need someone who can 'put
the ball in the back of the net' with some regularity. I like the idea
of sponsoring a player for a nominal fee - but who could we choose? give
it some thought I'll be happy to go with your judgement. How
about some sort of fun aspect to the e-zine ? A 'where are they now' spot
- former Latics players last seen playing for some obscure non-league side
perhaps.or a daily bit of Latics trivia ( need a Rothmans or something
for that!) Keep
up the good ( nay, excellent ) work - keep the faith as they say. Clive
from Oldbury. If
anyone would like to submit trivia questions on a regular basis - please
let me know. Gary. I
have been asked how to find the programmes that I have for auction on ebay.Click
on this link http://www.ebay.com then
on the left hand side under categories click on Sports. On the sports page
type the word Oldham in the search box at the top right of the page. Click
on Sports and search titles and descriptions. Click on SEARCH. You will
then get a list of all the lots that are available relating to Oldham.
If you want to
bid on anything you will have to register with ebay. Don't worry it is
simple and safe. If you only want to have a look at lots you don't need
to register.

Sugden
eyes regular spot
teenage
striker Ryan Sugden has set himself a goal for the new season - a regular
place in the Latics line-up. The 19-year-old was in from the start in only
three games in the last campaign but he made another 14 appearances from
the subs bench. Sugden's season was interrupted by illness and injury and
he said: "I will be trying to be more involved next season and going all
out to make the forward spot my own. "Strikers are judged by goals and
I need to start finding the net in first team games." The youngster certainly
knew how to do that as a junior - he once scored 114 goals in one season
playing for Bradford side Queensbury Celtic, which was four more than Leeds
teenager Alan Smith who was playing for Rothwell in the same league. Now,
he is just looking forward to the start of the new season and is glad the
last one is out of the way: "I went into it full of optimism, having scored
a lot of goals for the reserves in the previous season. "It didn't get
off to a bad start because I made my full debut in the Worthington Cup.
"But then I missed a lot of games through injury and illness and it became
very frustrating." He added: "I am under contract until 2002 but I want
to do well and be offered another contract. I am happy at Boundary Park."
Adams
to keep playing
Veteran
midfielder Neil Adams is also looking forward to the new season and the
35-year-old has no thoughts of hanging up his boots yet. He said: "I've
had a great career and the highlight was winning the old First Division
with Everton. "I also have a Second Division championship medal, England
under-21 caps and almost 500 games under my belt. I've also been to Wembley
with the Latics in the Littlewoods Cup final. "The medals and caps are
in the cupboard and I wouldn't change a thing given my time again. "When
you have had a successful career you don't want to stop."
Youngsters
on tour
The Latics
under-15s squad is in Northern Ireland where they will take part in the
Foyle Cup. They will play in three group games and hope to progress even
further before flying home on Sunday.
Serrant
loaned to Sheffield United
Former
Latics full-back Carl Serrant has joined Sheffield United in a two-month
loan deal from Newcastle United with a view to a permanent switch. Sheffield
United are waiting until the player returns to full fitness before making
a decision on whether to make his move to Bramhall Lane permanent. He spent
four seasons at Boundary Park from 1994 to 1998, scoring just one goal
in 90 appearances. The transfer listed defender, who is suffering with
a hamstring problem as a side-effect of being out of action since the winter
following knee surgery, will work with Blades physio Dennis Pettit to build
up his fitness.
