AMAZING GAME
Latics Manager Andy Ritchie is still
wondering how his side failed to pick up all three points in last night's
League game against Wycombe. Latics had an amazing 25 shots and 17 corners
in the game compared to Wycombe's 7 shots and 3 corners. It was down to
the brilliance of their keeper Martin Taylor, who had an inspired game,
and some wayward finishing. The game had a frantic start with 2 goals and
a sending off in the first 5 minutes. Wycombe went in front on 2 minutes
through Sean Devine and Paul Rickers levelled within a minute. The game
was only 5 minutes old when Jason Cousins was shown the red card for a
professional foul on Craig Dudley who was racing clear. It was then a continual
bombardment of the Wycombe goal as Latics forced their numerical advantage
home. Shots, headers and corners rained in but Taylor in the Wycombe goal
made some stupendous saves. Then in the last 2 minutes Wycombe snatched
the lead again with Baird scrambling home in the goal mouth melee.
Latics were not finished and Steve Whitehall flashed home a header in the
last minute. And there was more to come as Craig Dudley had a great chance
to wrap it up in stoppage time but fired his shot into the side netting.

Boss' frustration
Andy Ritchie was frustrated after his
side drew last nights game against Wycombe despite dominating proceedings.
Ritchie said: "The players do my head in."
Oldham had 13 shots on target, plus
another 12 off the mark, and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Ritchie insisted:
"We will have far less chances in a game and win it. "In the end we were
lucky. Very, very lucky."
Boss to run
rule over trialist
Andy Ritchie will run the rule over 21
year old trialist Paul Jones tonight when he plays for the reserves against
West Brom. The defender, who plays for Leigh RMI in the Unibond League,
has impressed in training. Ritchie said: "We have had a look at him over
the last few weeks and he looks a good prospect." Jones was on the books
of Liverpool as a YTS trainee, but did not make the grade. Ritchie, though,
knows that many players have followed the same route as Jones only for
them to carve out a successful career with a lower division club.

How did the Latics not win?!
Goals from Rickers and Whitehall secured
a 2-2 draw against Wycombe but missed chances and great keeping denied
Latics all three points. A frantic start to the game saw two goals and
a dismissal in the first five minutes! The visitors took the lead with
just two minutes showing on the clock with their top scorer Sean Divine
finishing off an Andy Baird cross from close range. However, the lead lasted
seconds as Paul Rickers put the finish on Lee Duxbury's cross to level
the scores. Before we even had time to draw breath we'd also witnessed
a red card being brandished. Chris Vinnicombe was the player sent off for
a professional foul after he pulled down Craig Dudley who was clean through
on goal. The Latics then went on to murder ten man Wycombe carving out
chance after chance, but a combination of missed opportunities, with Craig
Dudley the main culprit and some excellent keeping by Martin Taylor kept
the scores level. Unbelievably it was Wycombe who almost came up with the
winner as a minute from time the provider for their opener Andy Baird put
them in front before Steve Whitehall, again on as a sub, levelled and then
Dudley again missed an excellent chance in injury time as he blazed wide
from a good position.

2 WYCOMBE 2 |
A
last-minute strike from substitute Steve Whitehall earned Oldham a dramatic
2-2 draw against Wycombe at Boundary Park. Lawrie Sanchez's Wycombe had
stunned Oldham the home side with a goal after just two minutes seconds
when top scorer Sean Devine got his 10th goal of the season. But the home
side, starting a run of seven games in a month, hit back immediately to
equalise when Paul Rickers struck his first goal of the season a minute
later. Wycombe were reduced to ten men after five minutes when Jason Cousins
was red-carded for a professional foul on Craig Dudley. But the real drama
came in the last three minutes as Andrew Baird gave the Chairboys an 88th
minute, only for Whitehall to deny them all three points.
