Tony Bugby
of the Oldham Evening Chronicle writes, Andy Ritchie has vowed to continue
playing as he prepares to make a rare appearance in his testimonial against
Blackburn Rovers at Boundary Park tonight (19.45).The Latics manager, 39
in November, believes he may still be needed for first team duties. Stitch
has reacted to reports that he will retire from playing after tonight's
game saying "There is definitely no truth in the stories. I accept my chances
of playing are limited, but if we get a glut of injuries I may be needed.
We don't have a lot of senior players and a lot of our young professionals
may not be able to handle first team football".It is likely Ritchie will
start with the same line up used in the Isle of Man International Football
Festival Final against Stockport last Saturday.TeamsOldham Athletic

Ritchie has spoken to Sunderland manager
Peter Reid about the loan of both Gerry Harrison, who Latics have on trial,
and Paul Beavers. Stitch would like to take Harrison for a month and Bearvers
for the season. It looks
like Junior Agogo might be available for the opening game against Preston
North End on August 7th. The 19 year old loan striker was reported to have
been called up by Ghana for a Olympic qualifier against Jamaica on the
same day. Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Wilson has spoken with Stitch
and he knows nothing of the call up. Junior has also said he wants to play
on opening day. Tony Bugby,
after covering the goings on at Boundary Park for eight years move to become
the chronicles man at Old Trafford and Maine Road (poor so and so) in a
reorganisation that sees David White leave the chron. Michael Yarwood will
take over as the man at Boundary Park from tomorrow.

trialThe Latics are
giving a trial to former Bournemouth and Southampton midfielder Paul Tisdale.
The 24 year old, who had been training
with Fulham, is looking for a new club after returning from a spell playing
in Hong Kong.
Tisdale spoke to Andy Ritchie last
week and was invited for a trial at Boundary Park.
Ritchie explained: "I told him I couldn't
offer him anything more than a trial.
"But I also said that if he was better
than any of the players on the books then I would take another look at
the situation."

Blackburn News
Injuries to numerous key players will
once again force Brian Kidd to select several reserve team players for
Rovers game against Oldham tonight. Rovers travel to Boundary Park to play
in player-manager Andy Ritchie's testimonial this evening but just who
Kidd can select will not be known until a full assessment of the club's
injured personnel has been made.
Kidd is not expected to thrust Garry
Flitcroft straight back into the fray whilst the likes of Ashley Ward,
John Filan, Matt Jansen and Darren Peacock are all recovering from various
injuries and ailments.
Add to the list long term injury victims
Nathan Blake and Billy McKinlay and the boss could be forced to draft in
the youngsters once again as he did on Saturday against Blackpool.
