Today's Headlines

ESPN Soccernet Skipper Chris Hope came to Scunthorpe's rescue to pinch a priceless point for the Irons. He struck seven minutes into the second half with a fine close range header from a Lee Hodges cross. Earlier Oldham had taken the lead through Steve Whitehall's fifth goal of the season. The striker headed home a Neil Adams cross in the 31st minute to stretch the Latics run to three defeats in 13 games.

Jones back on bench

After coming in for the suspended Mark Hotte, Paul Jones will again drop to the subs bench for the game with Stoke. Ritchie gave the rookie defender his debut against Scunthorpe with Mark Hotte suspended for a game and the 21 year old - who is under contract until the end of the season - did not disappoint or do his chances of earning a longer term deal any harm whatsoever. Jones will have plenty of time to reflect therefore on his debut and will now wait for another chance as Hotte returns to the side for the match with Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. That is likely to be the only change as Ritchie hopes his side can take full advantage of a club that have been in turmoil this season changing their manager and owners.

Honours even

It finished 1-1 at Boundary Park against Scunthorpe as Steve Whitehall's first half goal was cancelled out by a second half Chris Hope goal. It was the visitors who made the brighter start to this Boxing Day clash. Lee Hodges twice went close as he saw a shot blocked, before Gary Kelly was called into action to save from the striker. Meanwhile, Chris Hope fired wide of the target while Manny Omoyimni's strike flew over the cross-bar. As the half progressed though Oldham began to find their feet as Neil Adams was denied by Lionel Perez in the Scunthorpe goal, while the Iron keeper also saved from Steve Whitehall's left foot shot. And on 31 minutes Oldham took the lead. Steve Whitehall was the man on target as his header from a Neil Adams cross nestled in the back of the net. As the interval approached the Latics went close to grabbing a second but Lee Duxbury's shot in the area was high of Perez's goal. Oldham continued to press in the second half as Whitehall's header from an Adams cross tested Perez. But on fifty two minutes Scunthorpe were back on level terms as Hodges centre following a free-kick picked out Chris Hope the Iron captain making no mistake with his header. And Scunthorpe were to enjoy chances to grab a potential winner. Chris Hope's header from an Omoyimni cross was just wide of Kelly's upright, whilst Omoyimni's strike from distance flew over the cross-bar.Scunthorpe did not find the back of the net a second time though as it finished 1-1, a result that sees Oldham in 15th spot in the table.

Teamtalk Stoke City

City unchanged

Gudjon Thordarson is set to stick with the same side that won at Blackpool on Boxing Day when Oldham visit the Britannia on Tuesday. The boss was impressed with what he saw during the 2-1 victory and he's set to give the same eleven players the nod for the Oldham game. That means loan star Frode Kippe will start again after impressing in his first game since his arrival from Liverpool. Thordarson said: "Given the circumstances Frode Kippe played very well. I was pleased with his performance but I knew what to expect from him before we signed him." Of Tuesday's game Thordarson said: "I liked what I saw against Blackpool there is no real need to change things around."

STOKE SUFFER SKIPPER BLOW FOR LATICS CLASH
Stoke may have to do without the services of skipper Nicky Mohan for the clash with Oldham at the Britannia Stadium. Mohan is struggling with a hamstring injury picked up in the Boxing Day victory at Blackpool. Potters boss Gudjon Thordarson could choose to recall Anders Jacobsen as Stoke look to reclaim a place in the top six. Jacobsen has completed a one-match suspension and comes into contention. Oldham's Mark Hotte will also return after suspension, the defender was unavailable to boss Andy Ritchie for the trip to Scunthorpe. Hotte looks likely to come in for youngster Paul Jones who deputised against The Iron during the 1-1 draw. In attack leading scorer Mark Allott will partner Sunday's goalscorer Steve Whitehall. Youngsters Craig Dudley and Matthew Tipton will have to make do with a place on the bench.
