Adams eyes new season return

Neil Adams is set to return to first team action for the start of the new season after suffering from a foot injury towards the end of last term. The 35-year-old Latics veteran had to sit out the final 14 games of the last campaign because of the injury. But he is now set to join the rest of the players when they report back for pre-season training early next month. Adams is currently in his second spell with the club, but aggravated an old foot injury that he had picked up at former club Norwich City. A screw had worked loose and he had to undergo surgery to correct the problem. And it was decided not to risk the injury again in order to allow him extra time to make a full recovery. Adams took a while to settle in again on his return and was the first to admit that his form was below his expectations. However, after his injury there was no doubt that the quality and frequency of his crossing was badly missed. Adams revealed: "I always work hard during the summer and don't simply put my foot up for the break. I usually run every other day and also regularly work out in the gym. "You have to work that bit harder as you get older so you don't get left behind." Adams is in the final year of a two-year contract but insisted: "I don't see any reason why I can't continue beyond that."

Ritchie maintains upbeat approach

Andy Ritchie has revealed that last season's off-the-field problems at the club never affected him of the Oldham players. The shareholding of the club changed hands and the issue of the new stadium seemed to be never-ending. But Ritchie said: "I never felt that I was working against an uncertain background. Everyone mucked in really well and worked their socks off. "The senior players helped out with the youngsters, which was good to see, and the kids were willing to work. "The whole of last season was a big team effort and it is fair to say that the club took a few steps in the right direction."

Youth boss to be revealed

Oldham are set to announce the club's new Director of Youth Development tomorrow. A long list of applicants for the position has been whittled down to a short list of just three and interviews with the trio were conducted last week. The post became vacant when Peter Lowe left Boundary Park back in March by mutual consent and the new man will take up the position with immediate effect.

  Gary,
Well done for this interview.......definitely an insight to the way Mr Brierley thinks ..... which is what we all need to know (Is the club in safe hands) and over all after your interview, I think it is in safe hands...!!..... I was a little bit disappointed with his answer on transfer money.......I know the finances of the club are the main consideration at the moment but the fans still need the hope of the odd purchase of talent to give the team a shot in the arm from time to time........and with a possible two million coming in from the sale of McNiven and Allott we should have a transfer slush fund,or if we get the chance of Alan Smith coming on loan to the Latics lets be able to take that chance.........I'm sure ticket sales alone would increase, and pay his wages.......... anyway lets just hope Mr Brierley does not discount ideas like that just because he does not initially like the look of the cost on paper......!!               ........a job well done Gary....!!

                                 Cheers Andy
