Latics march on
Oldham continued their impressive pre-season
build up with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Boundary Park.
The visitors dominated the first half
and took the lead after 29 minutes through Paul Devlin.
The impressive Axel Smeets was the
provider when crossing from the right and there was Devlin at the far post
to head home.
United continued to press forward
with Katchouro and Hunt both going close.
The second half was a different story
as Latics began to get themselves into the game.
Junior Agogo had a header saved before
Mark Allott equalised when he raced through the midfield and fired his
shot low into the net.
Latics scored the winner with 15 minutes
remaining when Simon Tracey failed to hold Matthew Tipton's shot and Mark
Innes fired home the rebound.
Agogo tug of war
Oldham are involved in an international
tug-of-war for on-loan striker Junior Agogo.
The 19 year old Sheffield Wednesday
star has now been officially invited to join up with the Ghana under-23
squad for the Olympic Games qualifier on August 7th.
A fax from the Ghana FA has been sent
to Boundary Park requiring the player's services but the Latics don't want
to lose him so Andy Ritchie will try and get things sorted out this weekend.
Ritchie said: "Obviously we don't
want to lose Junior but, at the moment, everything is up in the air. The
fax containing travel arrangements is also very sketchy, and we really
need more details of when he has to go and how long he would be out there
for."
Anyone interested
in buying some old Latics programmes from the 60's and 70's let me know.
