Latics crush the Bees !

A goal from Andrew Holt, and two second half strikes from Mark Allott helped the Latics to a crushing 3-0 home win over Brentford.
It was a well deserved win for Andy Ritchie's men as they leap into the top half of the table.
It was Brentford who made the early running, and their leading scorer Lloyd Owusu had the first chance of the game.
Patrick Agyemong's pacey run and then cross fizzed across the box, and Owusu only just missed getting a final touch.
Darren Powell was then next to go close for the visitors, his flick header drifting just wide of Gary Kelly's upright.
Oldham fought their way back into the game, and Lee Duxberry's header was denied by a good save from Andy Woodman who tipped over the bar.
A couple of minutes later, John Sheridan found himself just inside the box with the ball at his feet, but he uncharacteristically shot over the bar.
Oldham did claim the opening goal though on 33 minutes, when Andrew Holt broke the deadlock.
Neil Adams' cross found Holt in the area, his shot wasn't clean but it had the direction to end up in the corner of the Brentford net.
Just before the break the Bees were very nearly back on level terms, but Gavin Mahon's free kick bent just over the bar.
Half time 1-0.
The Latics came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, and the second goal seemed to kill off Ron Noades' men.
Mark Allott grabbed the that second goal on 61 minutes, when he powered home a header from Steve Whitehall's corner.
It was all over bar the shouting for the Bees with fifteen minutes left, when Brentford keeper Andy Woodman was sent off.
Allot latched onto a long ball forward and was then upended in the area by the on rushing Woodman who was dismissed.
The Bees sub Andy Scott game on in goal, but was well beaten by Allot with the penalty as he fired into the top corner.
It could have been four to Oldham in the last minute, but Andy Holt's header from a corner crashed against an upright.

OLDHAM 3 BRENTFORD 0
Oldham stretched their revival run to just three defeats in 17 games to continue their climb up the table after posting their biggest league win of the season against Brentford at Boundary Park.

It left Brentford with just one win in 10 games.

The Bees went behind after 33 minutes when Oldham defender Andrew Holt scored his first goal of the season.

The home side made it two in the 61st minute when Mark Allott headed home from three yards out.

Worse was to come for Brentford when they were reduced to 10 men after keeper Andy Woodman was sent off for a professional foul on Allott, who made no mistake from the penalty spot in the 76th minute.

O'NEILL LATE SHOW SAVES WIGAN

Ten-man Wigan had Michael O'Neill to thank for avoiding a second successive home defeat.

His 87th-minute equaliser cancelled out Dave Livermore's 49th-minute effort in the 1-1 draw with Millwall after Stuart Balmer was sent off for deliberate handball.

Bristol Rovers leapfrogged Preston to move into second place with goals from Jamie Cureton, in the 58th minute, and Jason Roberts, in the 66th, putting them in charge against promotion-chasing Gillingham who made it 2-1 through Iffy Onuora two minutes from time.

Burnley's hopes of keeping pace with the leading pack were set back at Saltergate where, although they led through Andy Payton's goal in the fourth minute, they had to settle for a 1-1 draw when Ryan Williams levelled after 73 minutes.

Notts County suffered a similar fate, going down 2-1 at home to lowly Colchester who led through two goals from Steve McGavin, the first a 30th-minute penalty, the other coming on the stroke of half-time.

Kevin Rapley pulled one back after 65 minutes but United's defence held firm.

Blackpool thought their luck had turned under new manager Steve McMahon when Gary Ablett netted his first goal for three years after eight minutes.

And despite Andy Locke equalising for Luton after 27 minutes, further goals from Phil Clarkson and Steve Bushell looked to have made the points secure.

But Phil Gray pulled one back for the Hatters on 82 minutes and Matt Taylor made it 3-3 just before the whistle.

Wrexham registered their first win in 17 games when they triumphed 2-0 over Bury at Gigg Lane with Neil Roberts, in the 45th and 74th minutes, ending a club record run.

Bournemouth's in-and-out form continued with a 3-2 home defeat by Bristol City.

Keith Millen gave City the lead after 31 minutes before Steve Robinson levelled just after the break only for Tony Thorpe to restore the lead after 61 minutes and increase it with a 67th-minute penalty.

Jon O'Neill's 84th-minute effort ensured a nail-biting finish.

Wycombe came from a goal down to sink Scunthorpe with goals from Jamie Bates after 30 minutes and Keith Ryan after 58 minutes giving them a 2-1 win.

Gareth Sheldon had given the Iron the lead in the 19th minute.

Reading, getting almost as desperate for points as Cambridge, had to settle for a 0-0 draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Oldham's biggest league win of the season was marred as Brentford's sent-off keeper Andy Woodman accused Latics striker Mark Allott of diving.

Allott was left sprawling by Woodman to earn the 76th-minute penalty which wrapped up a 3-0 win and gave Allott his 11th goal of the season.

He scored Oldham's second after Andrew Holt grabbed the opener.

Oldham boss Andy Ritchie revealed: "I said to their keeper after the game that he was unlucky to be sent off but he claimed Mark dived. The lad isn't that sort of player and the keeper definitely touched him."
