BRENTFORD OLDHAM
Brentford opened their home campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory against an indifferent Oldham side at Griffin Park. In the first half completely dominated by the Bees, the Latics went in at the break all square thanks to keeper Gary Kelly. After the break the Bees continued to dominate and they broke the deadlock after 63 minutes when Derek Brian headed home a cross from Danny Boxall. Three minutes from time the Bees secured all three points when Hermann Hreidarsson headed home the Bees' second goal from a Gavin Mahon cross.

KELLY HERO AS LATICS CRUMBLE

BRENTFORD 2 OLDHAM 0

GARY Kelly's heroics couldn't stop Oldham crashing at Brentford. Kelly produced a string of fine saves to keep out rampant Brentford but was beaten in the 62nd minute by Substitute Derek Bryan's powerful close range header. Oldham were condemned to their third successive defeat when Hermann Hreidarsson headed home from 12 yards in the 82nd minute. Kelly had earlier made stunning saves from Bryan and Scott Partridge as Brentford dictated the action against shot-shy Latics.

Latics stung by Bees
Oldham have lost at Griffin Park, losing 2-0 to Brentford, and again failed to find the back of the net which must be a real worry to Andy Ritchie.
Substitute Bryan came on and met a wonderful cross from Richard Boxall to direct a downward header into the back of the net.
Hreidarsson then wrapped up the points with his late header.
Brentford were well worth their victory after completely dominating the play. They nearly took the lead in the first minute when Lloyd Owusu wasted a glorious chance by blasting over the bar.
They've had several other chances which could have made the scoreline even more convincing, with Andy Scott missing an open goal.
Oldham offered little in attack, with Lee Duxbury the only man showing some creation and they had very few chances, and it could be seen why they have failed to score so far this season.
The only negative point for Brentford from the game was Lloyd Owusu's departure at the end of the first-half, the striker limped off with what looked like a return of the calf injury he picked up against Ipswich Town in midweek.

Another international call

Reserve team keeper David Miskelly is the second Latics player to get an international call. Number one keeper Gary Kelly is already on stand-by for the Republic of Ireland's three Euro 2000 qualifiers next month. And 19 year old Miskelly is to link up with the Northern Ireland squad. He will join his international colleagues immediately after the Brentford game. Miskelly is wanted for a friendly against France to be played in Belfast next Tuesday. It means he will miss the reserve team game against Preston 24 hours earlier.
